Raghunath Anant Mashelkar- also known as Ramesh Mashelkar, (born 1 January 1943) is an Indian Chemical Engineer, born in a village Mashel in Goa and brought up in Maharashtra. He is a former Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).He was also the President of Indian National Science Academy (2004-2006), President of Institution of Chemical Engineers (2007) as also the President of Global Research Alliance (2007-2018). He was also first Chairperson of Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research

Gangadhar Devrao Khanolkar - Gangaram Devdhar Khanolkar, who was famous as a painter and lexicographer, commemorates today. While studying in Topiwala High School, Malvan, Sindhudurg District, Maharashtra, his s. why Met Patil and joined Gandhiji's non-cooperation movement. He spent two years from 1921 to 1923 at Rabindranath's Shantiniketan. After returning from there, he worked as a teacher at Samarth Vidyalaya, Telgaon.

१९९३ सालच्या ३० सप्टेंबरला भारतीय प्रमाणवेळेनुसार पहाटे ३.५६ वाजता लातूर व उस्मानाबाद जिल्ह्यांत एक भूकंप झाला, त्याला लातूरचा भूकंप म्हटले जाते. या भूकंपाचे केंद्र सोलापूरच्या ईशान्येस ७० किमी अंतरावर होते. रिश्टर स्केलवर ६.०४ तीव्रता मोजला गेलेल्या ह्या भूकंपात अंदाजे ७,९२८ माणसे मृत्युमुखी पडले, १५,८५४ जनावरांचा मृत्यू झाला, तर सुमारे १६,००० लोक जखमी झाले. ५२ गावांतील ३० हजार पूर्णपणे जमीनदोस्त झाली तर १३ जिल्ह्यांतल्या २ लाख ११ हजार घरांना तडे गेले. उस्मानाबाद जिल्ह्यातील उमरगा व लातूर जिल्ह्यातील औसा तालुक्यांना ह्या भूकंपाचा सर्वात जास्त फटका बसला. ह्या दोन तालुक्यांतील एकूण ५२ गावे उद्‌ध्वस्त झाली.

हृदयविकारासंबंधित जनजागृती करण्याचा दिवस म्हणून २९ सप्टेंबर हा दिवस दरवर्षी जगभरामध्ये साजरा करतात. या दिवसाला जागतिक हृदय दिवस असे संबोधतात. या उपक्रमामध्ये हृदयविकाराचे प्रतिबंधात्मक उपाय आणि या विकाराचा जागतिक पातळीवर होणारा परिणाम यांचा समावेश होतो.

जागतिक हृदय संघटना (World heart Federation, WHF) आणि जागतिक आरोग्य संघटना यांच्या संयुक्त विद्यमाने जागतिक हृदय दिवसाला मान्यता मिळाली (१९९९). जागतिक हृदय संघटनेचे अध्यक्ष (१९९७-९९) आंतोनियो लुना (Antonio Bayes de Luna) यांच्या संकल्पनेतून हा वार्षिक उपक्रम राबवण्यात आला.
