          THE CAMBRIA COUNTY COMMISSIONERS HAVE NAMED 26-YEAR LAW ENFORCEMENT VETERAN JEFF VIVIAN AS THE COUNTY'S NEW CHIEF PROBATION OFFICER. VIVIAN TAKES OVER ON MONDAY FOLLOWING A SERIES OF DEPARTMENTAL TRANSFERS. HE SUCCEEDS FORMER CHIEF TONI WHITE, WHO RESIGNED IN APRIL AFTER BEING CHARGED WITH FELONY COUNTS OF THEFT BY UNLAWFUL TAKING, FOR EMBEZZLING FUNDS FROM THE GREATER JOHNSTOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT BOOSTER CLUB.  

          A PHILADELPHIA MAN ACCUSED OF KILLING AN ADAMS TOWNSHIP RESIDENT IS CHALLENGING EVIDENCE AGAINST HIM IN CAMBRIA COUNTY COURT. DEFENSE ATTORNEYS FOR DASHANE WHITE-FERGUSON ARGUE POLICE LACKED PROBABLE CAUSE FOR WARRANTS TIED TO A TURNPIKE TRAFFIC STOP WHERE HE WAS ALLEGEDLY FOUND DRIVING THE VICTIM’S VEHICLE. PROSECUTORS DISAGREE, SAYING THE WARRANTS WERE VALID. A JUDGE HAS NOT YET RULED.

          A $200,000 STATE GRANT SECURED BY SENATOR WAYNE LANGERHOLC IS HELPING THE EBENSBURG AREA AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION PURCHASE A NEW AMBULANCE. THE NEARLY $300,000 VEHICLE WILL BECOME THE FIFTH UNIT IN THE EMS FLEET.

          BLAIR COUNTY WILL PAY $97,500 TO SETTLE A FEDERAL LAWSUIT FILED BY THREE FORMER FOSTER CHILDREN WHO ALLEGED THEY WERE REMOVED FROM AN ALTOONA HOME IN 2008 AND LATER ABUSED BY FOSTER PARENTS IN CLEARFIELD COUNTY. COUNTY COMMISSIONERS APPROVED THE SETTLEMENT WITHOUT ADMITTING WRONGDOING, SAYING IT AVOIDS ADDITIONAL TRIAL COSTS. THE FOSTER PARENTS WERE CONVICTED OF CHILD ABUSE CHARGES IN 2020.

          BLAIR COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ENTHUSIASTICALLY ADOPTED A NEW FIVE-YEAR HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN. THE LONG-AWAITED APPROVAL REPLACES AN OUTDATED VERSION THAT HAD TEMPORARILY LOCKED OUT LOCAL MUNICIPALITIES FROM STATE GRANT MONEY AND PUT POTENTIAL DISASTER RELIEF FUNDS AT RISK.

        CAMBRIA COUNTY’S PLANS TO POWER ITS PRISON AND COURTHOUSE WITH SOLAR ENERGY ARE MOVING FORWARD. COMMISSIONERS APPROVED A NEW UTILITY ENGINEERING STUDY AGREEMENT TO ENSURE THE LOCAL GRID CAN HANDLE THE EXTRA POWER. OFFICIALS SAY THE PROJECT WILL EVENTUALLY CUT ENERGY COSTS IN HALF FOR COUNTY FACILITIES AT NO COST TO TAXPAYERS.

An escaped Jefferson County jail inmate is back in custody this morning. Prison Warden Dustin Myers confirmed that thirty-five-year-old Eric Dwayne Bailes has been caught, following his escape from a work-release job in Reynoldsville on Monday afternoon. Further details on his capture have not yet been released.

Meanwhile, tensions are running high in Clearfield County. A packed room of residents blasted county commissioners over the Moshannon Valley processing center. Multiple speakers called the immigration site a concentration camp and alleged poor inmate treatment. The county's contract with I-C-E expires in September.

And the Shapiro Administration has marked a major environmental milestone with help from a Pittsburgh Steelers legend. State officials announced the plugging of Pennsylvania's four-hundredth abandoned oil and gas well. Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerome Bettis, who owns the company that capped the leaking well, joined leaders to celebrate the cleanup. Officials say the state has now capped more toxic wells in the last three years than in the previous eleven years combined.

A tragic motorcycle crash has taken the life of a well-known local businessman. The Lawrence County Coroner says sixty-year-old Bryan Todd Scheidemantle died Wednesday afternoon. His motorcycle collided with an S-U-V on Wilmington Road. Scheidemantle was the former owner of Scheidemantle Motors in Hermitage. The crash is under investigation.

Meanwhile, high prices are hitting valley wallets hard. Gas prices are stuck well over four dollars a gallon, forcing families to skip expensive out-of-state trips. Local travel experts say "tank-full tourism" is booming as people look for weekend options close to home.

One of those local options returns tomorrow. The tenth annual Tour de Donut kicks off Saturday morning at Westminster College in New Wilmington. Hundreds of cyclists will ride through Amish country, eating doughnuts along the way to win custom medals.

A major drug bust in Elmira has two men facing up to life in prison. A violent crime task force pulled over a vehicle Tuesday on Euclid Avenue. Inside, officers found a half-pound of meth, suspected narcotics, an imitation pistol, and over seven thousand dollars in cash. James Johnson and Lee Dewart face top-level felony charges.

An Elmira Heights man is back behind bars after a wild break-in. Deputies arrested forty-five-year-old Christopher Price on Monday. Investigators say Price stole a car, returned it to the owner's home, and then broke inside the house where the homeowner caught him.

And rap superstar Nelly is coming to the Southern Tier. He will headline the summer stage at Tag’s in Big Flats on September eleventh. Set an alarm if you want tickets—they go on sale this morning at ten o'clock sharp.
