OFFICIALS SAY THE GOAL IS TO BOOST TRANSPARENCY BY BREAKING DOWN CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS, SERVICE UPDATES, AND CODE REGULATIONS INTO BITE-SIZED CONTENT ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND YOUTUBE.  
          CITY LEADERS HOPE THE MOVE WILL CUT DOWN ON RUMORS AND BUILD TRUST WITH RESIDENTS.

          GETTING ACROSS PENNSYLVANIA BY RAIL IS ABOUT TO GET A WHOLE LOT EASIER.

          BACKED BY OVER $220 MILLION IN STATE AND FEDERAL FUNDING, TRACK IMPROVEMENTS WILL HELP EASE DELAYS BETWEEN FREIGHT AND PASSENGER TRAINS.           CHANGES ARE COMING FOR A TEEN MURDER SUSPECT HELD IN COLUMBIA COUNTY.
          17-YEAR-OLD ADAM BARTOSIC, CHARGED IN THE 2025 DEATH OF CARTER CONKLIN, WILL TRANSITION OUT OF ISOLATION AFTER TURNING 18 NEXT MONTH. OFFICIALS SAY BARTOSIC—WHO IS SEVERELY AUTISTIC—WILL MOVE TO A CELL WITH ANOTHER INMATE RATHER THAN GENERAL POPULATION.  A PRELIMINARY HEARING REMAINS ON HOLD PENDING A FINAL MENTAL HEALTH COMPETENCY EVALUATION.

          THE BLOOMSBURG AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT IS INVESTING OVER $167,000 IN STATE GRANT FUNDS TO INSTALL SEVEN METAL DETECTORS AT ENTRANCES TO EVERY SCHOOL WITHIN THE DISTRICT.
          SUPERINTENDENT J.J. CLEAVER SAYS THE MOVE ADDS AN EXTRA LAYER OF PROTECTION FOLLOWING RECURRING SOCIAL MEDIA THREATS, INCLUDING AN APRIL SNAPCHAT HOAX THAT SCARED NEARLY HALF THE STUDENT BODY INTO STAYING HOME.
          STAFF WILL BE TRAINED ON THE NEW OPEN-GATE SCANNERS BEFORE SCREENING BEGINS AT THE START OF EACH SCHOOL DAY.

Clarion County officials have officially identified 1990 homicide victim “Penny Doe” as nineteen-year-old Windy Buchanan, from Louisville, Kentucky.  District Attorney Drew Welsh announced Monday that modern DNA testing and forensic genealogy solved the thirty-six-year-old mystery. Buchanan’s remains were found by children in Monroe Township in July 1990, and state police emphasize her murder investigation remains wide open to catch her killer. Buchanon's sister, Tanya, said Windy believed Pennies were lucky.  She was found with one in each pocket.  

Meanwhile, Knox residents Christopher and Andrew Bryan have been held for trial in the Clarion County Court of Common Pleas on severe child abuse charges, remaining jailed on two-hundred-thousand dollars bail each.

And State Police in Marienville are asking for help identifying a driver who fled troopers early Sunday on a side-by-side utility vehicle in Tionesta Borough.

A twenty-five-year-old Rossiter man is in the Jefferson County Jail on one-hundred-thousand dollars bail after police say he stole intimate photos from a co-worker's phone. Punxsutawney Borough Police charged Joshua Realmo-Lautt with computer theft after he allegedly accessed an unattended phone at a local plant and texted nineteen private photos to himself.

In a separate case, a sixty-three-year-old Punxsutawney man faces felony corruption of minors charges for allegedly flashing two children. Authorities charged Barry Allen Craft with indecent exposure and open lewdness following an August twelfth incident on Railroad Street.

And as Brookville area students return to class this week, the school district is welcoming three new elementary educators. Board members approved the hires of special education teachers Tammy Rush and Rachelle Hope, alongside reading specialist Megan Greenland, to kick off the new school year.

The murder trial for thirty-two-year-old Dashawn Watkins in the dismemberment death of fourteen-year-old Pauly Likens has been delayed for a sixth time. A Mercer County judge continued the trial to March twenty-twenty-seven following an attorney conflict of interest within the public defender’s office.

State Representative Marla Brown and New Castle Police have launched Project Lifesaver across Lawrence County. The national program provides free radio-transmitter wristbands to vulnerable children and adults with autism or dementia, allowing first responders to locate missing individuals in under thirty minutes.

And New Castle City Council has appointed Chief Financial Officer Stephanie DiCarlo as interim city administrator starting September first. DiCarlo will take over executive operations as outgoing administrator Chris Frye departs for a new position in Butler County.

State police and PennDOT are launching a statewide Labor Day impaired driving crackdown. Extra troopers and municipal officers will be on patrol across northwest Pennsylvania through September seventh to target drunk and drug-impaired drivers.

In Cambridge Springs, borough council has awarded a nearly twenty-thousand-dollar contract to X-L Excavating to fix a collapsed storm sewer line at the Carnival Grounds. Officials also secured state grant funding to install audio-assisted pedestrian signals at Main and Church streets.

And Meadville City Council has approved a new five-year contract with its police union, guaranteeing annual pay raises of nearly eleven percent for new officers to strengthen recruitment and retain staff.

Two Hornell men are facing felony hate crime charges after allegedly stealing and burning an Israeli flag. Hornell Police arrested thirty-one-year-old Declan Banko and twenty-eight-year-old Cormac Banko after officers say the pair stole the flag from outside a local business and destroyed it at a home.

In Cattaraugus County, State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred early Sunday morning in the Town of Freedom. Authorities report thirty-six-year-old Phillip Schramm died at the scene after his vehicle lost control along Route ninety-eight, overturned, and struck a tree.

And State Route twenty-one in Hornellsville is open once again following a two-point-two-million-dollar culvert replacement project. Department of Transportation officials say while traffic detours have ended, work crews remain on site finishing guide rails and road striping, so work zone speed limits remain in effect.

A forty-six-year-old Bradford County man could spend the rest of his life behind bars following a child sexual abuse conviction. President Judge Maureen Beirne sentenced Jesse Gallagher of Sheshequin Township to a minimum of twenty-seven years and nine months in prison, designating him as a sexually violent predator.

In regional outdoor news, a two-hundred-fifty-thousand-dollar upgrade to the Catharine Valley Trail is now complete. The project introduces updated signage, interactive maps, and a new app offering self-guided audio tours in six languages to help boost tourism across Schuyler County.

And local organizers in Chemung, Steuben, and Tioga counties can now apply for community project funding through Sustainable Finger Lakes. Neighborhood mini-grants between one-hundred-fifty and seven-hundred-fifty dollars are available for resident-led environmental and community initiatives, with applications due by September first.

Governor Kathy Hochul marked five years in office today since taking over the governorship. Hochul highlighted her administration’s work on middle-class tax cuts, housing development, and public safety. However, state political opponents continue to criticize her administration over rising state spending, delayed budget approvals, and recent funding cuts to local programs.

Among those cuts, law enforcement leaders and upstate district attorneys are demanding state leaders restore nearly seven million dollars in reduced funding for Child Advocacy Centers. The budget cuts threaten to eliminate or sharply reduce forensic interviews and recovery services for child abuse victims by October first, impacting regional facilities across Steuben, Schuyler, Chemung, and Yates counties.

Meanwhile, New York State Attorney General Letitia James has announced the arrests of seventeen people following a major multi-county drug bust. State investigators say the ring operated out of local barbershops and restaurants to distribute large quantities of cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl across Monroe, Erie, Onondaga, and Niagara counties, as well as Puerto Rico.

In transport and infrastructure, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has unveiled a four-billion-dollar overhaul plan for the heavily traveled Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. The project will reconstruct a one-and-a-half-mile stretch between Atlantic Avenue and Sands Street using local funding to accelerate the construction timeline, with work scheduled to begin in twenty-thirty.

A new economic report from insurance broker Aon warns that employer healthcare costs across New York state are projected to surge by nearly ten percent next year. The increase could push average employer spending to nineteen-thousand dollars per employee, marking a fourth consecutive year of near double-digit percentage hikes for business owners.

And the countdown is officially on for the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse, which kicks off this Wednesday. The annual statewide celebration runs through Labor Day, featuring agricultural exhibits, live entertainment, rides, and a nightly drone show.
