Swift Justice details the public hangings held at the Jefferson County Courthouse between 1867 and 1907, highlighting the improvised gallows, the harsh bias against immigrant mine workers at the turn of the century, and the unsolved 1919 cold case of a ten-year-old boy found in a barn.

Meanwhile, lack of a quorum forced the Clarion County Prison Board to limit its August meeting to operational reviews. Board members discussed recent state inspection findings—which mostly involved minor inventory discrepancies—and reviewed reentry programs currently serving 58 local participants through house arrest and electronic monitoring.

And state police have released details on a fatal single-vehicle crash in Venango County. Authorities report twenty-six-year-old Andrew Malone of Titusville lost his life on August fourth after his vehicle went off Route 157 in Pinegrove Township and struck a tree.

A local business owner is calling on DuBois City Council to crack down on neglected commercial properties downtown. Sarah Vanderpool, who is relocating her title company to West Long Avenue, urged city leaders during a recent meeting to pass a new ordinance requiring owners of vacant storefronts to clean windows, remove outdated signs, and maintain building exteriors to help revitalize the downtown corridor.

In Fox Township, the local Historical Society is preparing to fill the newly constructed 4,800-square-foot History and Humanities Center in Kersey. Organizers are holding artifact collection days on August 22nd and 23rd at the Irishtown Road Municipal Building, inviting residents to bring in historic photos, tools, and memorabilia tracing the area’s rich mining, farming, and industrial past.

And live music returns to the Edward V. Cherry Amphitheater in DuBois City Park tonight at 6:30. Local favorites Noth’in Fancy will take the stage as the summer Music Fest series winds down its season.

It’s official: Texas Roadhouse is officially heading to Crawford County. Vernon Township supervisors have formally approved land development plans for a seven-thousand-nine-hundred-square-foot restaurant located at the former Meadville Mall site on Vernon Place. Diners will have to be patient, as the opening is projected for October of 2027.

Meanwhile, Vernon Township officials are working on new local regulations on two distinct fronts. Local leaders are currently drafting ordinances to govern both the location and energy demands of potential data centers, as well as new restrictions on where residents can house and contain backyard poultry in residential districts.

And in Mercer County, PennDOT is inviting public feedback on a proposed major overhaul of Route 518. The upcoming project will cover milling, paving, and drainage upgrades stretching from Route 18 in Hermitage to Indiana Avenue at the Farrell and Sharon border, with construction slated for 2027.

We begin with breaking news out of Youngstown, where emergency crews are on the scene of a crash involving a city bus and an SUV on the city's South Side. Authorities report the two vehicles collided shortly before twelve-thirty yesterday afternoon at Cameron Avenue and Gibson Street, sending the bus onto a sidewalk and leaving at least two people hospitalized.

In Mercer County, a couple faces criminal homicide charges after a three-year-old child died from cocaine toxicity in Greenville. State Police say Felicesha Hardman and Wade Daniels lost or misplaced cocaine inside their home prior to the child’s death. Both suspects were also injured in a car crash on August ninth; Daniels is now in prison, while Hardman remains hospitalized.

And a twenty-nine-year-old Butler woman has been ordered to pay over eighteen thousand dollars in restitution for a series of convenience store break-ins. Victoria Conley pleaded guilty to burglary charges and was sentenced to probation and community service.

In regional political news, longtime Tioga County Sheriff Gary Howard has announced he will not seek re-election when his current term ends in 2027, concluding nearly fifty years in law enforcement. Howard, who was first elected sheriff in 2004, oversees a staff of over one hundred officers. Sheriff’s Office veteran Frank Lavore has already announced his intention to seek the Republican nomination for the seat.

In Corning, plans are moving forward for a twenty-seven-million-dollar redevelopment of the former St. Vincent de Paul Church campus. The Parish Heights project will feature forty-five affordable apartments for seniors and families along with a daycare center, with ground breaking officially slated for the first quarter of 2027.

And the City of Corning is wrapping up its summer youth programming with the annual Kids Day Carnival this Friday at the Civic Center Rink. The free event for kids twelve and under runs from one to three p.m. and includes games, bounce houses, snow cones, and a free lunch provided by the school district.

Grief and support are pouring in across Allegany County following the tragic death of a Wellsville first-grade teacher and her six-year-old daughter in an ATV crash last week. A public visitation and memory-sharing service for Ashley and Emersyn Robichaud will be held Thursday evening from six to nine p.m. in the Wellsville Secondary School gymnasium, with counseling resources available for students and community members.

In Angelica, Casella Waste Systems and Waga Energy have launched a major new renewable natural gas facility at the Hyland Landfill. The new system converts landfill gas into pipeline-quality fuel, which is injected directly into regional networks and is expected to eliminate forty-seven thousand tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

And in Hornell, the city’s Industrial Development Agency is finalizing plans to build a new nearly one-million-dollar street connecting Route 36 to Shawmut Drive. Officials say the project will improve access to local businesses and redirect heavy truck traffic away from residential neighborhoods.

In political news out of Wood County, State Delegate Vernon Criss has officially filed to run as a write-in candidate for District 12 in the upcoming November election. The Republican incumbent says he made the move after the Republican primary was closed to independent voters, aiming to give voters broader options on the ballot.

Authorities have released details on a fatal Sunday afternoon crash on Interstate 77 near Parkersburg. According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, a Chevy Equinox traveled off the highway into the median and rolled over near mile marker 180. Fifty-seven-year-old Michael Todd Walker of Carrollton, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver was taken to Camden Clark Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

And across the river, the Belpre Police Department has sworn in its newest patrol officer. Quinton Anderson joins the force with seven years of prior law enforcement experience and has already hit the ground running on local patrols.

 A teacher and band director at Marion County High School is formally accused of sexually abusing students.  Kentucky State Police report 34-year-old Adam McRay has been indicted on well over a dozen criminal counts and is being held that the Marion County Detention Center.  KSP began investigating McRay back in May of this year after getting a tip from Lebanon police about possible inappropriate contact with at least two students.  He had been working as the Marion County High School band director since July of 2024 after serving as assistant band director in Mercer County.

A young man from Laurel County is facing charges for allegedly using flashing lights on his vehicle to stop drivers on Kentucky Highway 30 this past weekend.  The Laurel County Sheriff's Office says 19-year-old Korie Noble has been arrested on impersonation of a police officer and other counts.  Deputies say Noble was driving a white Ford Expedition with red and white lights and law enforcement markings on it when he pulled over two vehicles on Saturday night.  Noble tells officials he formerly worked as a firefighter and decided to use the lights he still has on his vehicle has to stop someone over a road rage incident.

A man is in custody after successfully evading Kentucky law enforcement since 2022.  The Knox County Sheriff's Office reports 36-year-old Floyd House was arrested while working at a construction site in Corbin last Friday.  House was charged with unlawful transaction with a minor by authorities in Elliott County four years ago and has been on the run since that time.  He is also wanted for failing to pay DUI fines in Clay County and refusing to appear on traffic charges in Laurel County.

Governor Andy Beshear says a new organization is needed to replace Network For Hope in Kentucky.  The nonprofit arranged for organ donations until U.S. Health Secretary Robert Kennedy Junior decertified it last week.  An investigation found the group pursued organs from individuals who still showed signs of life.  The Network of Hope CEO says he plans to appeal Kennedy's decision.
