Firefighters battled the fire at twelve-fifty Schweizer Road for over four hours before extinguishing it around seven A-M. No injuries were reported, and state fire investigators are currently on scene.

Meanwhile, the Elmira Animal Shelter is temporarily closed following a severe parvovirus outbreak that forced officials to humanely euthanize eleven dogs. Local pet owners are urged to immediately verify their animals are fully vaccinated.

And Governor Kathy Hochul announced nearly eighty-nine million dollars in state funding to restore critical support for New York crime victim assistance programs, including local rape crisis and domestic violence centers.

A fifty-two-year-old Westchester County woman is facing felony kidnapping and grand larceny charges after police say she stole a vehicle with a one-year-old child inside. Mount Vernon police report Tianna Crump jumped into the running car on Birch Street on Tuesday morning and sped off with the toddler. Officers located the stolen vehicle a short time later near police headquarters, safely recovering the child and taking Crump into custody without incident.

On the state consumer front, New York Attorney General Letitia James is issuing an urgent warning regarding nationwide student loan scams. Officials say fraudsters are targeting New Yorkers by capitalizing on recent federal changes to loan repayment options, offering paid assistance for services that are legally free. Attorney General James reminds borrowers never to pay upfront fees or share their Federal Student Aid credentials with unsolicited callers or advertisers.

In education news, Governor Kathy Hochul announced a major expansion of free Pre-K programs across more than four hundred school districts statewide. The initiative aims to add tens of thousands of seats as the state moves toward universal Pre-K for all eligible four-year-olds by twenty-twenty-eight. Meanwhile, New York City school officials are preparing a mandate banning artificial intelligence tools for students from Pre-K through second grade, alongside strict screen-time limits to preserve human interaction in the classroom.

ONRICO WILSON WAS INDICTED BY A WARREN COUNTY GRAND JURY FOR VEHICULAR HOMICIDE, ASSAULT, AND DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE. SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES SAY WILSON WAS IMPAIRED WHEN HE CRASHED INTO A TREE ON GIRKIN ROAD BACK IN MAY. HE IS SCHEDULED TO BE ARRAIGNED SEPTEMBER 14TH.

          A MECHANICAL FAILURE CAUSED A SUNDAY AFTERNOON CRASH IN BARREN COUNTY THAT SENT THREE PEOPLE TO THE HOSPITAL. SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES SAY A TRACTOR DRIVEN BY DANNY WINCHESTER VEERED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC ON LOUISVILLE ROAD, STRIKING A CHEVY SUBURBAN. WINCHESTER WAS AIRLIFTED TO UNIVERSITY OF LOUISVILLE HOSPITAL, WHILE THE SUBURBAN’S DRIVER AND PASSENGER WERE TREATED AT T.J. SAMSON COMMUNITY HOSPITAL.

          A BOWLING GREEN MAN FACES AN ATTEMPTED FETAL HOMICIDE CHARGE IN BARREN COUNTY AFTER ALLEGEDLY TAMPERING WITH HIS PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND'S MEDICATION. STATE POLICE SAY 27-YEAR-OLD ABDULAH MOHMAND SWAPPED THE WOMAN'S PRESCRIPTION WITH AN UNKNOWN DRUG IN MAY. INVESTIGATORS FOUND MATCHING PILLS DURING A SEARCH OF HIS HOME. MOHMAND IS CURRENTLY HELD IN THE BARREN COUNTY DETENTION CENTER AWAITING A SEPTEMBER 28TH ARRAIGNMENT.

The Allegany County Department of Health confirmed its fifth official case of the measles—located in the Town of New Hudson—with health officials monitoring fourteen additional presumed positive cases. The update follows Chautauqua County reporting its first confirmed measles case in over thirty years earlier this week. State and local health departments are actively conducting contact tracing and urging parents to ensure their families are up to date on vaccinations.

In law enforcement news, prosecutors in Fulton County, Georgia, have decided not to file criminal charges against West Seneca Police Chief Brian Cosgrove following an investigation into rape allegations. West Virginia’s state coffers are starting the new fiscal year strong, with August tax collections beating revenue estimates by thirty-five million dollars. State Revenue Secretary Eric Nelson reports total collections reached four-hundred-fifty million dollars for the month, driven primarily by strong growth in personal income tax revenues as wages continue to rise across the Mountain State. However, corporate income tax collections continue to lag behind expectations, with state financial officials warning that national economic factors could still impact the state economy.

Staying with state finances, State Treasurer Larry Pack has released a comprehensive new report detailing the projected tax revenues from future data center developments. The report highlights Google’s massive seven-billion-dollar data center project in Putnam County, estimating it will generate nearly twenty-six million dollars annually in revenue split between the county commission and local school board. The release comes as state and local leaders weigh tax structures for incoming tech infrastructure projects across West Virginia.

The storms last night knocked out power to thousands in the Midstate.  Officials say most of the outages were in Lancaster County, where close to 14-hundred remain without electricity.  Crews are working to restore power to hundreds in Cumberland and Dauphin counties, as well.  THERE ARE 24 OUTAGES REPORTED IN LEBANON COUNTY. 

          LEBANON POLICE HAVE CHARGED A CITY MAN WITH RAPE AND INDECENT ASSAULT, FOLLOWING AN ALLEGED ASSAULT LAST FALL.    
          23-YEAR-OLD KEVIN PADILLA-TORRES IS CHARGED WITH WITH RAPING A WOMAN HE KNEW IN HER HOME IN NOVEMBER OF 2025.  
          ACCORDING TO POLICE, PADILLA-TORRES DENIED HAVING ANY SEXUAL CONTACT WITH THE VICTIM, BUT COURT DOCUMENTS SHOW THAT DNA EVIDENCE COLLECTED FROM THE WOMAN'S CLOTHING MATCHED PADILLA-TORRES.  HE WAS ARRESTED ON AUGUST 21ST AT AN APARTMENT AT 368 NORTH 8TH STREET IN THE CITY.  

          THE LEBANON COUNTY REGIONAL POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS OBTAINED AN ARREST WARRANT FOR20-YEAR OLD ALEX KREISER. 
          THE WARRANT STEMS FROM A FOOT PURSUIT MAY 20TH AT THE AT&T STORE ALONG THE 24-HUNDRED BLOCK OF WEST CUMBERLAND STREET IN NORTH CORNWALL TOWNSHIP.  
          POLICE ALLEGE KREISER WAS ATTEMPTING TO EVADE ARREST FOR SEPARATE CRIMINAL CHARGES.

AN AUTOPSY HAS BEEN PERFORMED, BUT THE CAUSE AND MANNER OF DEATH REMAIN PENDING.

          GOOSE DAY IS RETURNING TO THE JUNIATA RIVER VALLEY WITH A PATRIOTIC SPIN FOR AMERICA’S 250TH ANNIVERSARY. PROSECUTORS ARGUE AN ATTORNEY FOR ANDRE BLACKWELL-SIMMS PREVIOUSLY REPRESENTED A KEY WITNESS IN THE MAY 14TH SHOOTING DEATH OF FREDRICK MYERS, CREATING A POTENTIAL CONFLICT OF INTEREST. THE JUDGE WILL REVIEW THE ARGUMENTS, WHILE BLACKWELL-SIMMS REMAINS JAILED ON HOMICIDE AND FIREARMS CHARGES.
