Rom 1:20 sê - Want sy onsigbare dinge kan van die skepping van die wêreld af in sy werke verstaan en duidelik gesien word, naamlik sy ewige krag en goddelikheid, sodat hulle geen verontskuldiging het nie. • 10 July 2026 Matthew 28, Acts 2: John Smyth, 1609 Amsterdam Baptisms, and Believer’s Baptism Memorable Monday
: Matthew 28, Acts 2: John Smyth, 1609 Amsterdam Baptisms, and Believer’s Baptism
In 1609, English Separatist exile John Smyth performed a radical act in an Amsterdam bakehouse by pouring water over his own head and baptizing his congregation, giving birth to the modern Baptist movement. Driven by a commitment to Scripture, Smyth rejected infant baptism in Favor of credobaptism—the conviction that baptism is reserved exclusively for professing believers as commanded in Matthew | 28:19 and Acts | 2:38.
This episode with Rocky Stevenson Pastor of Benoni Bible Church explores the historical journey of Smyth and Thomas Helwys as they fled religious tyranny under King James I to pursue biblical church reform and freedom of conscience. Discover how their struggle over church authority, succession, and Christ’s sole role as mediator (1 Timothy | 2:5) led to an immediate church split, Helwys’s brave return to establish the first Baptist church on English soil, and the enduring legacy of religious liberty.
We invite you to listen to this compelling narrative of faith, conviction, and church history, and reflect on what it means to align our worship and church practice fully with Holy Scripture.
