Getting Maced on Our California Tour!
True story: After wrapping up our first tour stop, we kicked off the second leg in San Jose. With plenty of free time in the afternoons, I had the “brilliant” idea to go see what was happening at the student demonstrations on the UC Berkeley campus. Let’s just say… bad call!
Within seconds of arriving, we got MACED! If you’ve never experienced it, trust me—you don’t want to. Our eyes were burning, stinging, and basically shut for hours. We were stranded until we could even open them enough to drive. Ah, the joys of being young rock n' roll musicians with a little too much free time!
This week’s show has an awesome lineup, starting with a new song from the ageless Dion called I Got My Eyes on You—no mace involved, we promise! Thanks as always for tuning in!

Rock n' Roll Tales from the Bay Area!
Listening to San Francisco by Scott McKenzie and San Francisco Nights by Eric Burdon & The Animals the other day took me back to a wild six-week Bay Area tour with my band. We hit San Jose, Oakland’s Jack London Square, and Santa Rosa, where we followed none other than Sly and The Family Stone!
Santa Rosa was our first show, and we were hyped. After our set around 1 am, the club owner invited us back to the kitchen for roast beef sandwiches and a beer. Just as we were about to call it a night, he dropped a bomb: “Time for your 2-6 am set!”
Let’s just say, words were exchanged, and he calmly placed his cleaver on the table that he used to carve roast beef, warning us in a quiet way that if we didn’t complete the gig, we wouldn’t get paid—and we’d never play California again.
Our manager, back in Texas, hadn’t mentioned this "after-hours" gig detail. By 5 am, we were wiped, playing to a tiny group of 10, but we finished the week, got paid, and headed to our next booking in Oakland. Rock n' Roll life wasn’t for the faint-hearted!
This week’s playlist is packed with killer tracks, and don’t worry—I won’t be pulling out a cleaver if you decide to tune out!
Next week, I’ll share the story of our band getting maced in Berkeley’s People’s Park!
Thanks for listening and rocking with us!

Ever hear a song a couple of times and struggle to find it? That was me with Affection by The Lost Boys. I spent years searching, only to discover it through Stevie Van Zandt from The Underground Garage—and his band duties with Bruce Springsteen. Where did I first hear it? In The Sopranos! 🕵️♂️🎶

And to finish strong, we’ve got five Johns in a row: Johnny Winter, Johnny Thunder, John Prine, John Mayall, and closing it out with the legendary John Lennon! 🎸✨
Shoutout: Big news from American Airlines—they’re launching the Safer Zone in January 2025! ✈️ Very exciting!

What started as a fun wintery day in Taos, NM, turned into one of the best memories with my daughter! 10 years ago, I didn’t even know how to make a playlist, so we said, “Let’s do a Father-Daughter playlist!” 🎧
There was no Radio Wilder show then—just a list for a night of music. Fast forward a few years, and after doing the show for three years, I stumbled across that playlist and thought, why not make a full Father-Daughter Show out of it! We took turns picking songs, back and forth, until we had a couple of hours of music. 🎶
Back then, I had about 200 songs to choose from. Today? Closer to 11,000! 🤯
Highlights:
We’re both huge Beatles fans, so of course, there are a few of their classics in there 🎸
Her picks included gems from Duran Duran, The Lumineers, Matthew Sweet, and The Shelters 🎤
The Deuces features a band we both love, Creedence Clearwater Revival with Born on the Bayou 🌊
I paired it with Etta James' cool, sultry version of the same song 🎶
Who knew a fun playlist for one night would turn into a show about our music five years later? The power of Rock n' Roll knows no age! 🎸❤️
Tune in and enjoy this special episode with us! 🎧
