Welcome back to Rad Onc Smart Review: Thoracic Oncology Edition.
Episode 6 tackles early-stage non-small cell lung cancer as a treatment-selection problem, not a reflex comparison of surgery versus stereotactic body radiation therapy. We begin by confirming localized, node-negative disease, pursuing tissue when safely feasible, separating medical operability from anatomic resectability, and defining the actual operation and radiation course being compared.
Using a growing, FDG-avid peripheral lesion as the anchor, we make the diagnostic, functional, perioperative, and toxicity tradeoffs explicit so that the final recommendation remains conditional, multidisciplinary, and aligned with the patient’s informed goals.
