  • TV Party Tonight: Winning Time - The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty (Season 2)
Pat Mullin and Mark Radulich present their Winning Time 2023 Season 2 Review! Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty is an American sports drama television series created by Max Borenstein and Jim Hecht for HBO, based on the book Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s by Jeff Pearlman. The first season, comprising 10 episodes, chronicles the 1980s Showtime era of the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team (beginning in late 1979), featuring notable NBA stars Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. It features an ensemble cast led by John C. Reilly, Jason Clarke, Jason Segel, Gaby Hoffmann, Rob Morgan, and Adrien Brody. The series premiered on March 6, 2022, with the pilot episode directed by Adam McKay. In April 2022, the series was renewed for a second season, which premiered on August 6, 2023. On September 17, 2023, it was announced that the series was canceled after 2 seasons.

Although HBO has reinforced that the series is a dramatization, the series has been strongly criticized by several former NBA players and basketball historians over what they allege are significant factual inaccuracies within the storylines.

The second season takes place between 1980 and 1984.

  • Long Road to Ruin: The Red Curtain Trilogy
Sean Comer and Mark Radulich present their Baz Luhrmanns Red Curtain Trilogy Review. The Red Curtain Trilogy is a DVD boxed set, released in 2002, of the first three films directed by Baz Luhrmann:

Strictly Ballroom (1992), starring Paul Mercurio and Tara Morice
Romeo + Juliet (1996), starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes
Moulin Rouge! (2001), starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor

The films do not form a trilogy in the traditional sense, as there is no relationship between the plot and characters of the three films. Rather, Luhrmann said that the three films followed a specific style of filmmaking. Each film contains a theatre motif that reappears throughout the film. Dance is used in the first film, poetry and language in the second, and song in the third.

Baz Luhrmann has coined the term red curtain cinema for his technique of using theatrical conventions to invigorate films to dazzling and dizzying heights, as shown in the three contained in this set: Strictly Ballroom (1993), William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet (1996), and Moulin Rouge (2001). Luhrmann notes the important characteristics of this style: take a well-known myth or fable and set it in a heightened creative world that the audience can participate in. In Strictly Ballroom, it's both David and Goliath and the Ugly Duckling set in the supercharged world of ballroom-dancing competition. For Romeo & Juliet, it's the star-crossed lovers transplanted to modern-day Verona Beach yet still peppered with Shakespeare's iambic pentameter. Moulin Rouge takes the story of Orpheus descending into the underworld in search of love then sets it in 19th-century Paris and adds modern pop songs.

Five Nights at Freddys is a 2023 American supernatural horror film based on the video game series and franchise of the same name created by Scott Cawthon. Directed by Emma Tammi, who co-wrote the screenplay with Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback, from a story by Cawthon, Chris Lee Hill, and Tyler MacIntyre, the film stars Josh Hutcherson as a troubled security guard who accepts a night-time job at an abandoned family entertainment center, where he discovers its four animatronic mascots come alive and are prone to murder. Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, Mary Stuart Masterson, and Matthew Lillard appear in supporting roles.

Five Nights at Freddy's was released on Peacock on October 26, 2023, and was theatrically released in the United States the following day, by Universal Pictures. The film received strongly negative reviews from critics, with the plot, pacing, lack of scares, and perceived shoehorning in of fan-service receiving particular criticism. However, the film was a box-office success, grossing $149.2 million worldwide.

  • The Last Unicorn Alternative Commentary
Mark, Jesse, and “The Invisible One” Justin Thomas come together to watch an animated film that left a traumatizing impression on many a child back in the 80’s. And that is why we are here to discuss “The Last Unicorn” as Mark felt the need to revisit it to just see if his fears were justified.

Don’t expect this to be an enlightening commentary, expect horrible humor, poor puns, and illegitimate illetaration. But if you have some time, set your internets to FUN and put us in your earholes. Here we go!

The Last Unicorn is a 1982 American animated fantasy film about a unicorn who, upon learning that she is the last of her species on Earth, goes on a quest to find out what has happened to others of her kind. Based on the 1968 novel The Last Unicorn written by Peter S. Beagle, who also wrote the film's screenplay, the film was directed and produced by Arthur Rankin Jr. and Jules Bass. It was produced by Rankin/Bass Productions for ITC Entertainment and animated by Topcraft.

The film includes the voices of Alan Arkin, Jeff Bridges, Mia Farrow, Angela Lansbury, and Christopher Lee. The soundtrack was composed and arranged by Jimmy Webb, and songs were performed by the group America and the London Symphony Orchestra, with additional vocals provided by Lucy Mitchell. The film grossed $6.5 million in the United States.

  • Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou Alternative Commentary
Robert Winfree and Mark Radulich provide Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou Alternative Commentary!

Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou, billed as Battle of the Baddest, is an ongoing heavyweight professional crossover boxing match between reigning WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and former UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou, scheduled to take place on 28 October 2023 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The British Boxing Board of Control will be the host commission for the event.

Prior to winning the UFC heavyweight title, Ngannou had long expressed an interest in moving to boxing, specifically facing Fury or former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. Following Fury's victory against Dillian Whyte in April 2022, Ngannou entered the ring and the pair put forth a suggestion for a bout against one another. Ngannou left the UFC in January 2023 following a year-long contract dispute. One of his main gripes was the UFC's denying of his insistence of a right to box in his contract. Ngannou later signed with the PFL, who would allow him to box.

A professional bout between Fury and Ngannou was announced on 11 July 2023, to take place in Saudi Arabia. WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman confirmed that Fury would not be stripped of his title and that the organisation had given him special permission to compete.

  • Kung Fury Alternative Commentary
Ronnie, Jesse, and extra special guest from the Dueling Ogres Podcast, Remington Hitchcock, bring you an alternative audio commentary for the 2015 YouTube smash hit film, "Kung Fury" - in all its absurd 80's action packed glory, these guys give it their best to keep up with the pace of this work of art!

Kung Fury is a 2015 English-language Swedish martial arts comedy featurette film written and directed by David Sandberg. It pays homage to 1980s martial arts and police action films. The film stars Sandberg in the title role, Jorma Taccone, Leopold Nilsson, and a cameo appearance by David Hasselhoff.

The film was crowdfunded through Kickstarter in the beginning of 2014, with pledges reaching US$630,019, exceeding the original target goal of $200,000, but short of the feature film goal of $1 million. It was selected to screen in the Directors' Fortnight section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, losing to Rate Me from the United Kingdom.

  • TV Party Tonight: The Fall Of The House Of Usher (2023)
Alexis Hejna, Dorian Price, Jason Teasley and Robert Winfree present their The Fall of the House of Usher 2023 miniseries Review! The Fall of the House of Usher is an American gothic horror drama television miniseries created by Mike Flanagan. All eight episodes were released on Netflix on October 12, 2023, each directed by either Flanagan or Michael Fimognari, the latter also acting as cinematographer for the entire series.

Loosely based on various works by 19th century author Edgar Allan Poe (most prominently the eponymous 1840 short story), the series adapts otherwise-unrelated stories and characters by Poe into a single nonlinear narrative set from 1953 to 2023, and recounts both the rise to power of Roderick Usher, the powerful CEO of a corrupt pharmaceutical company and his sister Madeline, and the events leading to the deaths of all six of his children. It stars an ensemble cast led by Carla Gugino as a mysterious woman plaguing the Ushers, and Bruce Greenwood as an elderly Roderick.

The first two episodes of The Fall of the House of Usher premiered at Fantastic Fest in September 2023 before the Netflix release the following month, being viewed over 13 million times in its first two weeks. It was met with positive reviews, with critics praising its production values, directing, and performances (in particular from Gugino, Greenwood and Mark Hamill), although they were divided on its narrative, notably in relation to the source materials.
