Today on the show, we have an extra special guest & long time friend of mine.. Kate!

Kate is a plant-loving creative and flight attendant.

She is the owner and creator of Rally & Roots, which is an Etsy shop that specializes in happy home decor (in the form of personalized clay pots).

For over five years Kate has worked as a flight attendant for a Canadian airline, and although she still loves the flexibility, travel and perks of the job, two years ago she was itching to do something creative on her time off.

After accumulating a few too many plants, Kate decided to paint her own clay pots and hand stamp cute phrases on them.

They were so loved by family and friends that her husband nudged her to try selling them online.

Kate turned to Etsy, a handmade and vintage selling platform, where she opened a shop, posted a few photos, and as easy as that, Rally & Roots was born.

What started as a side hustle and hobby quickly turned into a full-time business that Kate has poured her heart and soul into. In just over two years, the hand painted planters can be found living in 45 US States, 9 Canadian Provinces and in both the UK and Australia.

You can find Kate in Ontario where she lives with her husband, Jordan, and their adopted mini border collie, Pixie and their son. Kate loves to share her travel adventures and most importantly her love of plants.

Welcome back to the Visionary Life Podcast. I am so grateful that you're here.

This is the Season Finale of Season 3. I cannot believe this, even as I am writing it.

What began as a dream... a vision... back in December of 2017, has blossomed into one of the coolest projects that I've ever worked on. I seriously love every minute of creating, recording, editing & promoting the show.

The community that I've met and been connected to throughout the course of this Visionary journey have been the key reason why I continue to pour hours and hours each week into making a show for you.

Since this is the Season Finale, this is a great time to provide feedback or let me know who you'd like to hear on Season 4! We will resume with episodes on Sunday, September 11th.

Zoey Shamai is the founder and president at Tonica Kombucha, a Canadian beverage company.

Zoey’s entrepreneurial journey began in early childhood witnessing her mother, a health entrepreneur, pioneer a line of hemp and chia food products. While becoming a certified yoga instructor, Zoey was introduced to kombucha tea. Moved by the immediate effect it had on her digestion, Zoey became an avid kombucha brewer and began to share her fermented beverage with her community.

At a time when there were no other kombucha brands on the market in Canada, she became the first commercial kombucha brewer in Toronto. Although Tonica started as a love hobby, the overwhelming response Zoey got from consumers grateful for the digestive aid and skin cleansing from her fermented tea made it clear - this was just the beginning. And Tonica Kombucha was borne.

By 2011, Zoey had grown Tonica Kombucha to be sold in over 100 retail stores across Canada. In 2012 Zoey appeared on CBC’s Dragons’ Den with a winning pitch. Her appearance garnered international attention and though she declined the deal with the dragons off-air, the appearance opened doors to mainstream retailers. In 2016, Dragons’ Den featured Zoey again in a Success Story follow-up episode where they profiled Tonica’s production and filmed Zoey teaching a yoga class.

Today, Tonica continues to produce exceptionally authentic kombucha in their 12,000+ sq ft facility and is one of the only Canadian brands that remains brewed in small batches. Tonica is now sold in over 2000 stores across Canada including Whole Foods, Shoppers Drug Mart, Metro, and Loblaws. Zoey has been featured in several publications, including Canadian Business Executive, The Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Canadian Women in Food and Cityline.

Today on the show I am chatting with Paul & Russ from the company JusTea.

JusTea is a fair-trade tea partnership with small-scale Kenyan farmers, who are on a mission to connect tea drinkers to the farmer who made their cup of tea possible. They are all about creating sustainable employment on the ground and providing customers with access to healthy new Purple Tea!

So what is purple tea you ask?

It grows naturally in Kenya from Purple Tea leaves (similar to other purple superfoods: blueberries/acai) . Purple Tea has more antioxidants than green tea (hello anthocyanins!) and half the caffeine of green tea.

JusTea has already won BC’s “Product of the Year” last year for Purple Tea and I have no doubt that with leadership from today’s guest, Paul & Russ.. they are on track to win more and more awards in years to come.
