Raina Telgemeier interview | Total SF indie bookstore tribute

Listen Later

Raina Telgemeier is one of the most popular authors in Bay Area history, selling millions of copies of her young adult graphic novels including "Smile," "Ghosts" and her most recent memoir "Guts" — about her middle school anxiety and panic attacks. The San Francisco native joins host Peter Hartlaub as part of independent bookstore tribute month, talking about her relationship with Green Apple Books in S.F. — where she still signs copies of her books by the hundreds. She also talks about the first bookstore she fell in love with, what's she's reading during the pandemic and how she represents Bay Area landmarks and even accurate local weather patterns in her books.

Produced by Peter Hartlaub. Music is "The Tide Will Rise" by the Sunset Shipwrecks off their album "Community" and cable car bell ringing by 8-time champion Byron Cobb.
