La Bola Negra was a standout at Melbourne International Film Festival and we got to see it on the day of it's general release. An epic historical drama that is well worth the runtime (unlike some other historical epics of 2026 that we won't name in case we trigger the fan boys).

After many people were telling us how good the new Resident Evil reboot was, we decided to check it our for ourselves. Like Bryan's shooting in the movie itself, we found it a little hit and miss.

We stepped out of the cinema and towards the stage to see the Williamstown Little Theatre production of Holding The Man. Aside from the audience being better behaved, the production was a great piece of theatre with a number of interesting differences to the movie version we've reviewed in the past. It's running for two more weeks and we highly recommend seeing it if you're a Melbourne local.

The second night of this year's Pride Short Film Festival at Pride Of Our Footscray did not disappoint. We enjoyed some great dramas and docos, and some that blurred the lines between.

We launched our Origins series with Melbourne-based writer-director Jake Neville⁩ . We screened his short film The Bacchae paired with 1973's The Wicker Man. Between these screenings we hosted a Q&A with Jake to hear about his work and his inspiration, with the audience firing some curly questions his way. Keep an eye out for future Origins sessions for your chance to meet and chat with great local filmmaking talent.
