One year ago I took a week vacation just by myself and it was one of the most important things that I have ever done for myself. In today´s episode, I will share with you why I did this, exactly what happened and why I advise you to do the same. In your life, you are the most important person and that´s how you should treat yourself.
In summer 2020, I had to take some time off work due to burnout. After being at home for 2 weeks already I realized that I cannot switch off. I decided to go away for a week to be by myself. I had never been by myself for a week away from home without any plans or activities, so this was truly a first.
But I knew staying at home was not working and I needed to do something else. It was just not an option to stay in this situation of burnout and to go back to work as the same person, it was just not an option.
I went for a week, without any plans or activities booked. I took books, mindset courses, pen and paper to journal on. A day started with a long meditation, enjoying the morning on the balcony, breakfast, going on a hike for about 2 hours, enjoy nature, I would sit a lot and just look. In the afternoons I would watch the mindset course from Joe Dispenza, journal, practise yoga, going to the sauna and read a book, dinner and then early to bed. I did not have a lot of contact at home and I would not become friends with anybody there. It was all about just being with myself.
In that week I had so many realizations, bigger and smaller. The biggest one for me was "what to focus on in my business". I was mulling this over for a month already and I got the realization already in the first few hours of even being there. Just for this realization, it was worth it.
On the walks or just sitting outside in silence I was able to start listening to my inner voices and kind of have a conversation with myself. I was able to appreciate nature much more because I was by myself and not distracting myself with music, a podcast or audiobook. These were all "being in the present" exercises that gave me recovery, clarity, new ideas and thoughts.
The most powerful were the meditations. I would do about 2 sometimes 3 per day. These were guided meditations and they really helped me to work through some of my beliefs and through unwanted emotions. I journaled a lot which is a great habit as it opens the doors to our subconscious. You can get new perspectives, new ideas and realizations by putting your thoughts and emotions on paper.
After that week I went back home and try to build a lot of my practises like meditation, journaling and being with myself more in my daily routine. 2 weeks later I went back to work and everything was kind of different. I was able to since then to build more of these times by myself into my life but I would not have been able to understand what that actually means or how it benefits me if it were not for the experience of that week.
I know now how powerful it is to be with ourselves for a dedicated time without the usual distractions. It is not easy to make the time or to get away from the family and your responsibilities
but foremost you have a responsibility to yourself to be good, to be healthy mentally. It´s like they say on a plane in an emergency, put the mask on yourself first before helping others
if you feel good and you have access to your abundant energy, you are so much more helpful to others. And let me tell you, so many things that you saw before as an issue or triggered you, just magically disappear.
Think about it!
If you want something to shift fundamentally in your life, I truly bel
