’A TRANSFORMED LIFE’

STEP ONE = JESUS

- LIVING OUT THE GOSPEL IN OUR EVERYDAY LIVES.

LUKE 12:22-28

Then, turning to his disciples, Jesus said, “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food to eat or enough clothes to wear. For life is more than food, and your body more than clothing. Look at the ravens. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than any birds! Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things? “Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?

1) WORRY DOES NOT ADD.

LUKE 12:29-34

“And don’t be concerned about what to eat and what to drink. Don’t worry about such things. These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers all over the world, but your Father already knows your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need. “So don’t be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom. “Sell your possessions and give to those in need. This will store up treasure for you in heaven! And the purses of heaven never get old or develop holes. Your treasure will be safe; no thief can steal it and no moth can destroy it. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

WHEN THINGS GET REAL

PLAN IN PRIVATE

So I arrived in Jerusalem. Three days later, I slipped out during the night, taking only a few others with me. I had not told anyone about the plans God had put in my heart for Jerusalem. Nehemiah 2:11-12

COURAGEOUSLY CAST VISION

But now I said to them, “You know very well what trouble we are in…Let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem and end this disgrace!” Then I told them about how the gracious hand of God had been on me…They replied at once, “Yes, let's rebuild the wall!” So they began the good work. Nehemiah 2:17-18

EMBRACE THE COST OF YOUR MISSION

But when Sanballat, Tobiah…they scoffed contemptuously. Nehemiah 2:19

REMEMBER THE MISSION IS ALWAYS ABOUT PEOPLE

…repaired the wall. Each one repaired the section immediately across from his own house. Nehemiah 3:28

’WHERE I BELONG’

INTRO: LIFE IN PHILIPPI...

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A ROMAN COLONY?

PHILIPPIANS 3:14-21

I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. But we must hold on to the progress we have already made. Dear brothers and sisters, pattern your lives after mine, and learn from those who follow our example. For I have told you often before, and I say it again with tears in my eyes, that there are many whose conduct shows they are really enemies of the cross of Christ. They are headed for destruction. Their god is their appetite, they brag about shameful things, and they think only about this life here on earth. But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior. He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.

'Indestructible joy'

Philippians 3:1-3

Whatever happens, my dear brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord. I never get tired of telling you these things, and I do it to safeguard your faith. Watch out for those dogs, those people who do evil, those mutilators who say you must be circumcised to be saved. For we who worship by the Spirit of God are the ones who are truly circumcised. We rely on what Christ Jesus has done for us. We put no confidence in human effort…

1) Rejoice

- Worship protects your heart

- Not in my effort

Philippians 3:7-8

I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ…

2) Boast in the right thing

Philippians 3:12-13

I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead…

Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

1) KEEP UP THE GOOD FIGHT

PHILIPPIANS 2:14-16

Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. Hold firmly to the word of life; then, on the day of Christ’s return, I will be proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my work was not useless.

PHILIPPIANS 2:1-4

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

STAND TOGETHER IN LOVE

ABOVE ALL, YOU MUST LIVE AS CITIZENS OF HEAVEN, CONDUCTING YOURSELVES IN A MANNER WORTHY OF THE GOOD NEWS ABOUT CHRIST. THEN, WHETHER I COME AND SEE YOU AGAIN OR ONLY HEAR ABOUT YOU, I WILL KNOW THAT YOU ARE STANDING SIDE BY SIDE, FIGHTING TOGETHER FOR THE FAITH, WHICH IS THE GOOD NEWS. PHILIPPIANS 1:27

STAND UP

DON'T BE INTIMIDATED IN ANY WAY BY YOUR ENEMIES. THIS WILL BE A SIGN TO THEM THAT THEY ARE GOING TO BE DESTROYED, BUT THAT YOU ARE GOING TO BE SAVED, EVEN BY GOD HIMSELF. FOR YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN NOT ONLY THE PRIVILEGE OF TRUSTING IN CHRIST BUT ALSO THE PRIVILEGE OF SUFFERING FOR HIM. WE ARE IN THIS STRUGGLE TOGETHER. YOU HAVE SEEN MY STRUGGLE IN THE PAST, AND YOU KNOW THAT I AM STILL IN THE MIDST OF IT. PHILIPPIANS 1:28-30

’COMMUNITY OF JOY, PART 2’

HOW DO YOU MEASURE SOMETHING?

PHILIPPIANS 1:12-14

And I want you to know, my dear brothers and sisters, that everything that has happened to me here has helped to spread the Good News. For everyone here, including the whole palace guard, knows that I am in chains because of Christ. And because of my imprisonment, most of the believers here have gained confidence and boldly speak God’s message without fear.

1) LOOK FOR THE GOOD NEWS

GUARDS

BOLDNESS OF OTHERS

EVERY PLACE IS AN OPPORTUNITY

PHILIPPIANS 1:18-19

But that doesn’t matter. Whether their motives are false or genuine, the message about Christ is being preached either way, so I rejoice. And I will continue to rejoice. For I know that as you pray for me and the Spirit of Jesus Christ helps me, this will lead to my deliverance.

2) BE CONFIDENT IN WHAT MATTERS

PHILIPPIANS 1:20-26

For I fully expect and hope that I will never be ashamed, but that I will continue to be bold for Christ, as I have been in the past. And I trust that my life will bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die. For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better. But if I live, I can do more fruitful work for Christ. So I really don’t know which is better. I’m torn between two desires: I long to go and be with Christ, which would be far better for me. But for your sakes, it is better that I continue to live. Knowing this, I am convinced that I will remain alive so I can continue to help all of you grow and experience the joy of your faith. And when I come to you again, you will have even more reason to take pride in Christ Jesus because of what he is doing through me.

’COMMUNITY OF JOY’

PHILIPPIANS 1:1-11

This letter is from Paul and Timothy, slaves of Christ Jesus. I am writing to all of God’s holy people in Philippi who belong to Christ Jesus, including the church leaders and deacons. May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.

Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God. Whenever I pray, I make my requests for all of you with joy, for you have been my partners in spreading the Good News about Christ from the time you first heard it until now. And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

So it is right that I should feel as I do about all of you, for you have a special place in my heart. You share with me the special favor of God, both in my imprisonment and in defending and confirming the truth of the Good News. God knows how much I love you and long for you with the tender compassion of Christ Jesus.

I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return. May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation—the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ—for this will bring much glory and praise to God.

‘REDEMPTIVE COMMUNITY’

RANCH CHURCH: MISSION STATEMENT

“WE ARE A REDEMPTIVE COMMUNITY ON AN ADVENTURE WITH JESUS AS HE TRANSFORMS THE WORLD.”

1) WHAT IS REDEMPTION?

LEVITICUS 25:24-27

“With every purchase of land you must grant the seller the right to buy it back. If one of your fellow Israelites falls into poverty and is forced to sell some family land, then a close relative should buy it back for him. If there is no close relative to buy the land, but the person who sold it gets enough money to buy it back, he then has the right to redeem it from the one who bought it.

ISAIAH 43:1-2, 10

But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you... “But you are my witnesses, O Israel!” says the Lord. “You are my servant.”

2) DO WE NEED A REDEEMER?

GALATIANS 4:4-6

But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.”

1 PETER 1:18-20

For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. God chose him as your ransom long before the world began, but now in these last days he has been revealed for your sake.
