EP88 of the Random history of Belgium we'll look into the late 80s of the Mobutu regime until the 1997 end. We'll see the widespread corruption, increased economic aid, diplomatic failings and the poverty, as well as the reactions in Belgium. The rebellion and battle of Kolwezi, and the eventual experiments with democratization and the downfall of the regime.

In EP87 we'll talk about the first years of Mobutu's power, the relations with the Belgian government and Belgian companies, we'll talk about the Zaïresation, jets, the Rumble in the Jungle and the regime's fear tactics.

EP86 - This episode of the Random history of Belgium continues the history of Belgium and its former colony in middle Africa. We start with the independence of Congo and start to dive into the relationship between Brussels and the regime of Mobutu Sese Seko.
In this first part, we cover the start and coming to power of Mobutu.

EP85 deals with one of the vegetables associated with Brussels (and Belgium) for the longest time: Brussels sprouts, we'll go into the history, genetics, odor, growth, and cultivation of this plant, as well as some cultural aspects.

EP84 will tell us the story about the AES encryption cipher and the way it came into existence out of the electrical engineering department of a Belgian university. We'll take a closer look at what it is, why it's used worldwide and the history behind it, and a little about how it works.

In EP83 we're looking into the East-Belgium community, officially called Ostbelgien. We look at how it became a community, why they speak German there and where the territory was shifted to over time. We'll take a helicopter view about Belgian state structure as well to recap this last 5th part on Belgian state structure.

EP82 of the Random history of Belgium explains the official Brussels-Capital region in Belgium. We look at its history, parliament, government, the language border, the Brussels-Halle-Vilvoorde issue and the identity of the region of Brussels-Capital.

EP81 of the Random history of #Belgium is another part of the "orgins" series. This time we'll take a closer look at the history and many of the aspects of the Southern Belgium region of #Wallonia (one of the three official regions).

EP80 of the Random history of Belgium will take us to a trip to the 1950s with the construction of the Atomium in Brussels. We cover how it came to be, what it exactly is and its history.

EP79 explores the origins of the sub-state of Flanders, as a region within Belgium. We'll look at the language border, the first disputes regarding language-use and the different Belgian state reforms that led to the official Flanders region and community, with its own parliament.
