Ransom for Many

We are surrounded by a multitude of angels and so was Jesus after His temptation. These messengers conduct the Lord's business perfectly and immediately. You may be totally unaware of it, but God has and will send His messengers to help you and point you to Him.

How can we overcome powerful temptation? Jesus gives us the pattern to follow. He defended Himself and pushed back against Satan's words by using the Word of God. Study it. Know it. But also pray. Lastly, run. Sometimes the best way to escape temptation is to run away from it.

Jesus Christ sympathizes with us because He knows what it is like to be tempted. But He not only sympathizes, He empathizes. And if we go to Him in time of temptation, we will find grace and mercy in Him.

Today we begin discussing the temptation of Jesus. Notice how quickly Jesus went from great heights of His baptism to the great depths of being tempted by the devil. What an amazing thing it is when God speaks from heaven. And the Father does speak clearly at Jesus' baptism. What does He have to say? "This is my Son." But He doesn't stop there. He says, "With Him I am well pleased." God the Father is well pleased with every aspect of Jesus' life and intention of His heart. That pleasure of the Father is also poured on all those who take refuge in the heart of Christ.

John appeared, baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins (Mark 1:4).

There was nothing attractive about John the Baptist. His message didn't tell people they could healthy and wealthy. He didn't have a grand building. His clothes weren't the latest fashion. The only thing attractive about John was his proclamation of Jesus Christ.
