  • Bawrut: The 'Wednesday Alternative' Mix
What else is there left to say? We've said it all...
Bawrut is a hero of ours, a brother and a friend - he was the first man to feature on the label and has since gone on to roaring success with his music having been championed by everyone from Avalon Emerson to Skream, Andrew Weatherall to Patrick Topping, Optimo to Roman Flugel and beyond. His sound seems to find wide appeal across a spectrum of genres and sits firmly atop the niche - universally danceable and endlessly fun. He's made many friends along the way and his energetic, warm hearted approach to dance music is exactly what is needed in the current climate of seriousness and fabrication.
His new EP is set for release on Ransom Note Records and 'Pronto Arpeggio' has already been a roaring success across the clubs and festivals this summer - he smashed it. The release is rounded off with remixes from KiNK and Ruf Dug and it's about as big as they come.
Those who have watched Bawrut dj will know what to expect here - fun, fast paced and lively music built for the party. Lock in and get ready for the launch...

  • Cardopusher: The Ransom Note Mix
Venezuelan-born and based in Barcelona, as the founder behind Classicworks and a singular producer, Cardopusher is as rough and rugged as they come.
For over a decade he has been a driving force behind cutting edge, experimental electronic music having evolved through the dubstep era and mutating into the realm of techno and house in recent times. He has released an eclectic array of hardware driven, machine music on the likes of Hyperdub, Boysnoize Records, Super Rhythm Trax, I Love Acid and many more. His sound is diverse and abstract at times, drawing upon deep rooted influences and an eclectic sphere of music from across the spectrum of electronics.
Not someone who can be easily placed into a definitive category or box, he blurs the lines between house, acid, slow-mo and beyond. This mix is very much a reflection of that.

  • Zoo Look: The 'Wednesday Alternative' Mix
This summer marks the return of a friendly faced duo who have re-entered the fold. Zoo Look is a production and dj duo made up of two old friends who have been releasing music together since 2011. The pair have developed a crucial understanding of their production aesthetic and the new release on Lost Palms is perhaps their most significant to date. As DJ's they draw for an eclectic mix of house, techno and beyond with merits from the likes of Bicep and beyond.
The new EP is titled "Similar Steps" and is a subtle blend of deep house arrangements, electro and the abstract spaces in between. It's dreamy in parts and yet restrained.
This set is much the same featuring jackin' house from across the board - club focussed and energetic this is highly danceable stuff.

  • Eddie C: The Ransom Note Mix
Roll up, roll up! We are delighted to welcome a producer and disc jockey with absolutely impeccable taste. Eddie C has been a prominent figure amidst the house, disco, balearic crossover community for a long time now and has released an impressive array of music across a wide spectrum of record labels including Lumberjacks In Hell, The Very Polish Cut-Outs, 7 Inches Of Love and more. However, he has most prominently appeared on the mule musiq affiliated record label Endless Flight where he has released many albums and EP's.
Eddie's style is sprawling and wild - tapping into an era and ethos of tape mixes and hip hop as much as it does dance and club focussed music. As such the albums draw upon playful samples, skits and intricate funk fuelled percussion aplenty. His new album is called "Green Space" and doesn't fail to disappoint. It offers as much in the home listening department as it does for the late night dancefloor.
This mix was recorded in Japan, at the 'Good Music Party presents Rainbow Disco Club' party. It's absolute heat.

  • Penelope Trappes: The 'Wednesday Alternative' Mix
Australian singer Penelope Trappes came into her own on Penelope One, her debut solo album released via Optimo back in summer of 2017. She followed it up with her sophomore release Penelope Two at the end of last year, this time making a home on fabric's inhouse label Houndstooth. Musically both albums signalled a shift away from the dancefloor-focused productions she'd become known for as one half of The Golden Filter; think minimal soundscapes, distant echoing vocals and sparse atmospheric textures wrought with emotion.
June saw the release of Redeux, her second LP on Houndstooth, which saw her invite several producers to rework the original tracks first heard on Penelope Two. Amongst those tasked with creating their own reimaginations were Cosey Fanny Tutti, Mogwai, Throwing Snow and Aasthma, the collaborative project of Peder Mannerfelt and Par Grindvik.
For your listening pleasure she provides an immersive mix of cinematic sounds and textures to see you through hump day, including several of the reworks from Redeux...

  • ELSEMIX: Homeboy
Marko Pelaic has been a prominent figure amist the Berlin underground for many years now. He follows in the inspiration of Walter Gibbons who described a prolific relationship with music and culture as follows:
"The mainstream comes to you, but you have to go to the underground."
It is this ethos which Marko has brought to the forefront of his musical ideology. As a disc jockey he plays widely and with eclectic reference, his tastes are vast and are grounded in legacy and musical culture far beyond the stereotypes of dance music. Raised between Germany and Croatia his music is as much inspired by the natural majesty of the Adriatic as it is by the frenetic pulse of cities like Frankfurt and Berlin. As a producer he has released music on the likes of Hypercolour and Speak Recordings. He has also curated a successful label alongside friends Janis & Oliver Achatz in the form of House Is OK. The label has been responsible for the release of music by Homeboy himself as well as the likes of Roman Flugel, Kornel Kovacs, TCB, Adham Zahran and more.
Based in the German capital he has cut his teeth and formed a close relationship with both Renate and ELSE where he is now a resident. With this in mind and ahead of a special party this Sunday in collaboration with BAR we have invited him to record a mix as part of the special ELSE curated series.

  • Gamma Intel: The 'Shine A Light On' Mix
Amsterdam may be considered the main musical hub in the Netherlands but Rotterdam definitely gives it a run for its money. The port city in the south of the country is the base of independent radio station Operator as well as being home to label and radio shop Pinkman Records who have been responsible for a few of our favourite releases in recent years.
Gamma Intel has been closely affiliated with both institutions, as a resident on Operator and as a label mate for Pinkman with his release Motives & Methods earlier this year. We first caught wind of him via his release for London-based electro imprint Brokntoys, his debut EP in fact, which introduced us to his machine-driven sound; a heady blend of electro, EBM and raw electronics.
We invited him to give us a taste of what Gamma Intel is all about. Buckle up, this one's a barnstormer...

  • Elias Mazian: The Ransom Note Mix
Based in Amsterdam Elias Mazian is a well known face. He has released an eclectic series of forward thinking house and electronics and has become a keen member of the Red Light Radio family. We had the pleasure of hosting him on the beach at The Crave festival in The Hague a few weeks back and were wholeheartedly impressed with his eclectic portrayal of wandering hip hop, funk, soul, disco and house. A talented disc jockey and a charming man.
This month marked the release of a new EP from Elias on Mitchell Street Records - the imprint based in Glasgow run by Jasper James. It showcased a moody take on deep house and electro and followed on from previous appearances on Voyage Direct. It was a thoughtful reflection on the present state of modern electronics and marked a left of centre approach to the dancefloor - yet with distinctive drive.
We asked Elias to record a mix as part of our main series and we are delighted with what's shown up...

  • Ellie Stokes: The 'Shine A Light On' Mix
Chances are you've probably seen Ellie Stokes name popping up of late. As at home playing dreamy house and breaks as she is navigating through harsh industrial and techno, her ability to adapt has rightfully earned her a regular radio show on Noods and a residency at Bristol's Motion as well as spots on festival line ups across the UK and beyond.
One of the brains behind the top notch bookings at Bristol institute The Love Inn, she's had a hand in bringing some of the most exciting artists to play in the southwestern city. Palette, her own resident takeover at the club in June, saw her invite some of her favourite DJs to join her in the booth, including D.Tiffany, Ciel, Vaal and Kiara Scuro.
Ahead of her set at Farmfest next weekend we invited her to show us what she's all about. If you don't know about Ellie yet, get to know...

  • John Loveless: 'Shine A Light On' Mix
From his adopted home of Berlin, DJ and journalist John Loveless runs his party and label Hot Concept. The roving party, where he also acts as resident, has seen him share the booth with a diverse range of artists, and has since evolved to include a label arm, which he launched in May of this year with an EP from Beigean.
As a radio host he holds a residency at Lichtenberg's community-led platform Cashmere Radio, inviting the likes of Cormac, Daniel Avery, Karen Gwyer and Dark Entries boss Josh Cheeon to join him on his 'Display Resolution' show. Musically his monthly shows, and his DJ sets, explore offbeat house, psychedelic techno, heartfelt disco, outsider pop, transient ambience and, in his own words, "quite simply, whatever else works".
Off the back of his inaugural label release, we invited him along to give us a glimpse into what John Loveless is all about...
