  • Episode 6: COVID-19 & The George Floyd Uprising Part 1

Content Warning: This will contain language, beliefs, references and information that may offend listeners.

    a note:

I began working on this episode early in May. Originally, its sole focus was on the COVID-19 pandemic. As I'm sure everyone knows, the US has broken out into an uprising in response to the murder of George Floyd by police. So this episode will be the first part of a couple releases this month focused on both the COVID-19 crisis and the ongoing clash between the people, and the fascist police state.

  • Ransom Notes: Episode 5

Content Warning: This will contain language, beliefs, references and information that may offend listeners.

    a note:

First off, I want to confess that, yes this episode is being released on May Day, and no I dropped the ball on including any samples or songs in tribute to the occasion. I recommend heading over to the Channel Zero Network for your May Day podcasting needs.

In this episode you can hear topics ranging from black trans women's liberation to the abhorrent conditions of prisons and detention centers within the United States during the COVID19 pandemic (COVID-19 Michigan Prisoner Support).

Final note, as usual this episode focuses on hip-hop, however it delves into some noisier grindcore and noise rap tracks that may catch you by surprise.

Stay safe, mask up and hold it down for your people. 😷

Content Warning: This will contain language, beliefs, references and information that may offend listeners.

    a note:

Instead of utterly terrifying my listeners this episode with the COVID-19 pandemic and global capitalism's failure to cope with its fundamental opposition to the basic rules of biology while imperialist leaders of the world fumble hundreds of thousands-if not millions-of lives for the sake of maintaining their dominion across the globe -deep breath- ...I've decided to focus on a more positive and uplifting view of the situation. If there is one thing music does best, it's inspiring hope.

Tune in... and mask up? 😷

Content Warning: This will contain language, beliefs, references and information that may offend listeners.

    a note:

With this episode I took more of a chaotic approach with no overall theme, unlike the last one. However, it does end with a focus on the warriors currently defending Wet'suwet'en sovereign territory from the encroachment of the KKKanadian settler state. Some wise words from the Wet'suwet'en hereditary chiefs were sampled from the musical and political podcast, polyrical, and we leave off with a new track released this week by Snotty Nose Rez Kids.

    Dig it.

Content Warning: This will contain language, beliefs, references and information that may offend listeners.

    a note:

First off, there is no discussion to be had about today's climate chaos without also bringing up the topic of decolonization.

This episode was pieced together using the 1972 animated short, The Lorax, as its backdrop. Tune in and hear the story of how colonial occupation, the capitalist accumulation of wealth, and the oppression of colonized peoples has led the biosphere into anthropogenic climate catastrophe.

    A note:

One of my goals in this project is to introduce listeners to the radical, political and subversive roots of popular hip-hop. Naturally, this will contain language and beliefs that may offend listeners, and in some instances myself included. I contemplated scratching some of the language out but ultimately decided to keep it. As this is only the first episode I'm open to make some changes, however. Dig in!

About Ransom Notes

From the publisher's feed

Radical music and spoken samples carefully selected, viciously cut, and madly strewn together like the raving letters of a ransom note. Ransom Notes takes the subversive and anti-authoritarian elements of pop culture and mixes it with sounds of resistance from the underground to the streets.
