Newspaper industry has changed a lot over the years and some may be surprised it’s still standing today. Most people don’t read print anymore and instead everyone gets news on their phone. Mark sits down with Press Gazette Investigative Reporter, Doug Schneider, who says “once it’s been printed, it’s old news.”

It’s a topic that’s been burning up Green Bay area social media. It’s called the “Silent Epidemic:” adult children estranged from their parents. There is now a peer group in Green Bay to support parents: PEACE. Pastor Jerry Bader of Samaritan’s Heart Mission Church talks with Brian Briscoe, founder of PLACE, Parents Living After Child Estrangement.

They’re cutting vital programs like Social Security and Medicaid that Americans have paid into throughout their working lives – not to balance the budget, but to fund tax cuts for corporations and billionaires who don’t need the money.

As Senator Tammy Baldwin, who joins the show briefly, puts it: “This is like taking it from somebody who paid into Social Security or Medicaid to give Elon Musk a bigger tax break. He doesn’t need it.” When politicians talk about “necessary cuts,” always ask who benefits and who pays the price.

Up first this hour, State Rep Amaad Rivera-Wagner of the Green Bay area joins the Todd Allbaugh Show to talk about how he's working across the aisle to preserve the Green Bay Conservation Corps, Wisconsin's only local municipal branch of AmeriCorps. There's some really great stuff here about how people of WI (particularly GB) want to take care of each other.

Then on Maino & the Mayor, Alicia Wenger joins the show from Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services in Oshkosh. She shares the story of the organization's namesake and talks about all of the services that they offer individuals and families. Christine Ann touches the whole community from in-school programs to community education sessions.

Following that, Corinne Hendrickson is a child care professional and returns to Matenaer On Air to talk about the National Day of Action event happening on May 12 and the dire need for child care funding increases, which seems to be on the chopping block by the Wisconsin GOP. This will be their fourth year running "Day Without Childcare" as an event, which is taking place state-wide, too.

We wrap up the hour with a clip from Nite Lite with Pete Schwaba talking fairways and greens. Pete and producer Konrad talk about Kon’s golf game. Kon brags that he broke 100, and Pete jokes he almost did as well, but the windmill messed him up.

Kicking of this week, some parents and employers are going to notice a disruption next Monday, when a number of daycare providers close their doors or take other actions to call attention to how the lack of affordable childcare options has reached crisis proportions in Wisconsin. Corrine Hendrickson, a childcare provider from New Glarus, previews the 4th annual Day Without Child Care and the need for substantive childcare assistance in the next state budget, now that federal pandemic aid is nearly gone.

Then Dave Schroeder, Research Director for WI Security Research Consortium, joins the Maggie Daun Show to highlight vulnerabilities in national infrastructure and the insidious nature of disinformation campaigns. Dave reminds us that in the age of disinformation the goal is not to always separate us from our money but to separate us from reality.

Lastly, John and Gordy in the Morning welcome to the show Dr. Tim Slekar to the show to discuss the impacts of artificial intelligence, a.k.a. AI, of both hurting and helping critical thinking skills. Is it the tool that is to blame for those impacts? Or possibly something else?

Lynn Meshke joins Mark to talk about “Saving Medicaid.” They go in depth to talk about who is served by Medicaid and how the scope of service will surprise you.

Lynn gives her personal story on how she became involved in the fight, and she answers the question of whether or not legislators know the truth, all while shouting how “waste, fraud and abuse” is rampant. Lynn then details what is on the chopping block and how soon we could see action on it.

In the musings segment, Mark talks about how saving medicaid can be attributed to “doing the most good” and how that parallels the newly elected pope.
