  • Episode 36: Ship v. Control Water, Stacking Advantage, and One D&D
    Today, the Court is FULL. OF. SASS. That's right, we have Sassociate Justices Stu and Tom joining us as they delight in marital bliss following their recent betrothal! Congrats, boysss!! Now, down to bussy-ness! Today, the Court considers the case of Ship v. Control Water, and Justice Joe steps into the shoes of Plaintiff seeking the Court's opinion on whether you can use the spell to create a "water cliff" and instantly destroy a ship at sea. We then head on over to Chamber Chat and consider the merits of an optional rule that would permit stacking advantage and disadvantage and using the winning result. And finally, we address the end of "editions" in D&D and the coming of our eventual supreme ruler, One D&D. Gavel gavel, henny!

  • Episode 35: In re Leomund's Tiny Hut, Light Source vs. Invisibility, emotions in-game
    Well, you know what they say: Out with the old, in with the new!! As we say goodbye to one Elizabeth, another one joins us for court today!! That's right, Associate Justice Elizabeth is here to help the Court with some new cases! First, in In re Leomund's Tiny Hut, the Court considers what happens when you cast the spell in a space smaller than the spell's area of effect. Next, in Light Source vs. Invisibility, we put on our science pants, throw beakers at each other, and run some T-tests, because the only way to answer this question is with the power of FANTASY SCIENCE--when you cast invisibility and are holding a light source, does it still emit light?! And then, we doff our wigs and robes and settle into Chamber Chat, where we talk about getting into your character's/NPCs' emotions at the table. Court is in session!

  • Episode 31: In re Wither & Bloom, Counterspell v. Counterspell, Session 0s
    Powder and fluff your wigs, folks, because this one is a doozy! Joe and Ana are joined this week by the fabbbulous Associate Justice Ben to consider the case of In re Wither and Bloom, to answer whether one can spend a hit die while unconscious. And then, Justice Joe breaks the bench (not literally, #rude), with the fascinating case of Counterspell v. Counterspell. The court ponders whether using your reaction on your turn to case a spell with the same component used for a spell you're casting with your action essentially cancels the casting of that underlying spell. Sound confusing? Well, it is! Finally, we lounge around in Chamber Chat to discuss the importance of Session 0's and the rare DM Mutiny! Yowzas!

  • Episode 30: In re PC Daisey-Chaining & the Value of Guest PC's
    **NOTES:
    - In order to preserve our sanity, Ana and I have decided to move the podcast to bi-weekly! We think that we'll be able to provide a more consistent schedule by giving ourselves some extra time to record and edit. More to come!
    - We hope that this episode can bring some much needed levity during these extremely difficult times. Even if we can distract you for a little bit, we hope that helps. <3
    ++++++++
    All rise, as the only court with any semblance of credibility these days is in session! Today, we are joined by our lovely friend and co-PC Josh! First, in In re PC Daisey-Chaining, we consider just how far your conjured beings can carry you on your turn in combat--even if it wastes a 9th level spell to do it. Then, we consider the value added to games by guest PCs! Whether they stay just for a short time, or they end up a permanent part of your campaign, bringing a new face to the table can really change the dynamic of a game and add new layers of fun and complexity. Get your robes on, folks!

    NOTE: Joe's audio is still crappy. Apologies :)
    Do you slink in the shadows, waiting for that opportunity to strike? Or perhaps you don't mind standing out in the open, moving in-between enemies and striking left and right? Or maybe you just conjure psionic blades to deal devastating blows? Well, my friend, you are most certainly a rogue! We have Jesse, Lou, and Tyler from 3 Pillars of D&D podcast joining us for this class brief on rogues! Pay attention, class!

  • Episode 28 - Thri-Kreen Arms v. Somatic Components, and UA Race Features
    *Note: Joe apologizes for his terrible audio during the second half of this episode. He is an internet n00b and used the wrong mic...*
    Today we have not one, not two, but THREE pillars of D&D joining us! That's right, we expand the court to welcome Justices Jesse, Emma/Lou, and Tyler from the Three Pillars of D&D Podcast to the bench! We first address the case of Thri-Kreen Arms v. Somatic Components. Can the new UA Thri-Kreen race perform the somatic components of spells with its extra arms? And while we're on the topic--what ELSE can it do with those arms?!? We then relax in Chamber Chat to take a broader look at some of these new UA races. Are some of their abilities overpowered for mere racial abilities? Does the new flexibility in the character creation mechanics provide some much needed creative license? Maybe a bit of both? Come find out!!
    You can find the 3 Pillars of D&D podcast on Twitter at @OurDorky! Give them a listen!
