Re-tired: New Tread episodes

  • Re-tired Ep. 102: Personal Reflection Time

Tina asks, "Are you living your authentic life?" A baby elephant metaphor emphasizes the lesson that limits that we've been conditioned to impose upon ourselves are meant to be broken. Re-tirement allows us time to reflect upon core values and to work to act upon those values every day.

  • Re-tired Ep. 101: Jiji's New Tread

Tina's back with a couple of "tales", even one about Jiji. She shares her sense of accomplishment in her ability to stay calm amidst stress when presented with a negative interaction. Duct tape is very helpful indeed.

Sharon leaves retirement for a subbing gig -- she fills in for Tina in this week's 100th episode! Sharon recounts her love of chocolate that led her to stockpiling as a kid to the 40 year reoccurrence of a surprisingly romantic pumpkin costume! • Re-tired Ep. 099: Halloween?

In addition to the expected questions such as, "Do you turn off your patio lights on Halloween?" and "What candy do you give out?", Sue and Tina go off the rails to discuss Hobby Lobby and Chick filla. Zombies, capitalism, Gobstoppers, and jack o'laterns make the grade too!

  • Re-tired Ep. 098: Niagara Falls

Sue's just back from a meaningful trip to Niagara Falls. She and Tina share very different memories of adventures there. Sue recalls the childhood wonder and majesty of the falls, while Tina remembers a stop on her honeymoon of yore. The inevitable question of whether you would dare to go over the falls in a barrel came up. Who do you think would take that dare?

From Sue: A special callout to reconnecting with Canadian cousins and sharing a meaningful Thanksgiving! Your incredible warmth and hospitality was heartfelt.

  • Re-tired Ep. 097: Marriage & Weddings

Taking inspiration from Tina's recent experience as a matron-of-honor at a friend's wedding, the gals talk marriage. How does cynicism from being burnt by the institution in the past translate into their thoughts on the subject now? Sue and Tina, who both love ritual, agree that traditions such as "honor & obey" need to be remembered so as not to revert to such disempowerment by current and future generations. Tell us your thoughts on why you got married or why you and your partner decided not to marry.

  • Re-tired Ep. 095: Where's the Customer Service?

Tina and Sue wonder where's the customer service? Tina longs for interactions that leave her, as a consumer, with a good feeling rather than disappointment. Boomer Sue evokes the nostalgic days when customer service was a point of pride. Could it be the years spent at the service of students and families that has them expecting too much?

  • Re-tired Ep. 094: It's the System

This is part two of an important discussion about public school education. Tina and Sue debate the merits of memorization, the scapegoating of teachers, the "killing of souls", and other hot button topics. Tina acknowledges that the gals see things differently, but that their hearts are in the same place. Sue offers her defense of teachers to her colleagues in the trenches.

  • Re-tired Ep. 093: Educational Cogs

Tina initiates a subject that takes two episodes for the gals to discuss. She even riles up Sue, and emotions rise. This is a conversation to teachers, parents, and society at large. Why do we have an educational system where teachers are increasingly forced to operate as cogs? Public schools need full funding, a dynamic curriculum that changes and grows with the times, where all students are the focus.

About Re-tired: New Tread

From the publisher's feed

"Re-tired" is the podcast where your hosts, Sue & Tina talk about what life is like when we put on new tread for new adventures. We'll explore what it means to re-tire. Like any good road trip, we'll have great company and a load of fun. "Re-tired" will host meaningful conversations with feminists about shifts in life. That could mean discussions about new job or careers, new identities, new starts, and more. In sharing, our hope, our drive, is to not only listen and hear, but to understand and empower ourselves and each other.
