  • Getting Out of The Circle Of Weight Loss Hate

Welcome to Reaching ONEderland where I help you reach your weight loss goal and maintain it is without maintaining it. You're just on that weight loss rollercoaster. And I don't want you there.

Welcome to episode 20, where we are talking about weight loss and the circle of hate that takes us completely off track. And it is something I want to help you break.

Today's episode is actually brought to you by Become a MacroUnicorn where I help you lose weight, balance hormones, bust cravings, and break weight loss, plateaus, but you know what? None of that's going to work unless you can get out of the circle of hate. So that's what I want to talk to you about today.

It's the end of January already, and more than likely that first week of January, you set some huge goals.

And by the second or third week of January, maybe you started slipping and I want to help you get out of there. So why should you listen to me?

I'm coach Michelle and I have lost a hundred pounds, three times in my life. I was put on my very first diet of 900 calories at the age of nine.

And I have lived on the weight loss rollercoaster, and in that circle of hate, for close to 42 years. I lost the last 120 pounds, for the last time I'm ever going to lose it at 42. So if they are telling you, you can't lose weight or you're feeling too old to lose weight, get out of the there because I am 50 now.

And I have been maintaining this weight loss for going on seven years. So you can do this, but one of the things you have to do in order to do this is get out of that circle of hate. Now, what is the circle of hate?

Today I am going to explain the circle of hate, and give you some steps to get out of that hole!

  • Mindset, Habits & Macros -The Perfect Trifecta for Weight Loss

Welcome to Reaching. ONEderland where I help you reach your weight loss goal and maintain it because without maintaining it, you're stuck on that weight loss rollercoaster forever.

This is episode 19, where we are going to talk about we're going to talk about mindset habits, and Macros because they all work together.

Now, for those of you that don't know me,

I'm coach Michelle and I am a unique weight loss coach in that for 42 years, I was on the weight loss rollercoaster. I lost a hundred pounds, three times.

I was put on my very first diet at the age of nine, and it was a 900 calorie diet. I never want to go back there, but it was not until I was 42, where I actually hit my weight loss goal and maintained it for seven years.

Now, if you do the math, because you know, I was a math major in college. If you do the math that means I am 50 years old and I am still maintaining said 120 pound weight loss that took me about 18 months to achieve. So I am here to help you reach that weight loss goal and stay there.

My goal is not to help you do another diet, but to create a lifestyle of healthy living that allows you to maintain your weight loss. Let's talk about mindset habits, and Macros because it sounds cool.

No, because those three things work together and they are what have allowed me to reach my goal and stay there for as long as I have.

I have lost a hundred pounds in four months in my life and gained it back. And I've lost it in six months and gained it back in eight months.

So when I say it takes all three, this is the way I was able to do it. And this is the way I am coaching people to reach their goals and stay there.

Today's episode is brought to you by my program, Become A MacroUnicorn

How do I help people use these three pieces together to reach their goals? If we start with mindset, we're talking about changing our identity.

Never in my life did I think:

    • I would become a weightlifter.
    • I would be that healthy mom
    • Or see myself designing workouts for my teenagers who come to me to help them figure out what they need for their sports, what they need to be healthy.

And I'm very proud of that functionality in my life because you know, I am a mama bear at first and foremost in my life. They are my world and it makes me proud.

But how did I get here?

This is what we are going to talk about today on the podcast...

  • Goal Setting Doesn't Work For Weight Loss Without This

Welcome to Reaching ONEderland where my goal is to help you reach your weight loss goal and maintain it.

Because without maintaining it, all we have is the weight loss rollercoaster, and we don't want to go there. There should be no weight loss rollercoasters in this world.

Now welcome to episode 18, where we're going to discuss why goal setting does not work for weight loss.

I have a special story for this, but let me tell you why you should be paying attention to me.

I have lost a hundred pounds, not once, but three times in my life. And I was put on my very first diet at the age of nine, never reaching my goal and staying there for longer than a few months at a time.

Now, fast forward to 42, where I lost 120 pounds in 18 months. So it was not overnight but I've maintained it for going on 7 years.

And if you kinda do the math there, you'll see I'm 50 years old and still maintaining my weight loss.

This is the what? Fourth day of January. Yes, this is the fourth day of January.

And I weighed the same today as I did, the day before Halloween. So when I say standard goal setting does not work for weight loss. I think I might know what I'm talking about.

But I am here to help you figure out what does work and explain to you why goal setting and its standard form does not work.

Today's episode is brought to you by Become a MacroUnicorn where I teach you how to use Macros to lose weight, balance hormones, bust cravings, and break weight loss plateaus.

Now why does goal setting not work? Well, goal setting is actually good.

Goal setting has to be with smart goals. Now smart is an acronym and it stands for specific measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound if your goal setting is based 100% on a number on the scale, you can not hit a couple of those required elements with weight loss.

Let me explain if your specific goal is, I want to lose a hundred pounds this year. All right. So it's measurable. You record how many pounds you've lost each week. It's attainable.

    But it's very large.

But it's relevant and it's time bound.

But with the human body, you cannot control how fast you're going to lose that weight.

So today, let's talk about what we can do instead!

  • Intuitive Eating Doesn't Work For Weight Loss

Welcome to Reaching ONEderland where my goal is to help you reach your goal and maintain it because without maintaining your weight loss goal, you are actually on a weight loss rollercoaster, and I don't want you there. I want you to hit your goal and stay there.

Today's episode is brought to you by Become a MacroUnicorn where I teach you how to use macros to lose weight, balance hormones, bust cravings, and break the weight loss plateaus.

So what is episode 17? I actually want to talk to you about, the reasons intuitive eating didn't work for me. And I don't think it’s going to work for you and why I chose Macros instead.

Intuitive eating always cracks me up because I could intuitively eat an entire box of donuts because they taste good. And in a period of my life where I used food, food to cope, a box of donuts was right up there with where I would be eating. Another problem with intuitive eating is I am hungry all the flip and time.

And if I eat according to the intuitive eating quote unquote rules, I'm eating when I'm hungry and only when I'm hungry. Well, that leads me to eat a whole lot more. If I don't have some kind of a structure. And finally, and another reason is, excuse me, my world was focused on food. So intuitively eating means you sit there and you enjoy what you're eating.

And I'm not saying that you shouldn't incorporate some of the intuitive eating philosophies into Macros, but I'm saying the intuitive eating alone is not going to help you reach your weight loss goal, because there's no structure to be perfectly honest with you with intuitive eating. When my cravings took me way off track, I gained weight because there was no structure to intuitive eating.

It was eat what made your body feel good? Well, my body felt pretty flipping awesome at that period in my life, eating a box of donuts or eating two snicker bars on the way home from the store, I wasn't in tune enough with my body at that time to pay attention to how inflamed I felt or to me, it was a normal feeling.

    In This Episode I share:

    • Why structure is needed to lose weight and maintain that weight loss
    • Why intuitive eating does not provide that structure
    • What happens when we intuitively eat and don’t get enough calories (hint slows weight loss)
    • Why tracking calories is a great return on your time investment (that feeling of success is like a drug!)
    • Why adding structure can bust some of your cravings
    • Why whole foods in any program is the way to go
    • Why you need to know your body type to feed your body what it needs to lose weight
    • Why tracking your food can be one of your most important healthy habits.
    • Why macros and tracking your food can help you lose weight consistently, balance hormones, bust cravings, break plateaus, & get back on track

  • What The Heck Are Macros?

Most frequently asked question this week..

    What the heck are macros?

My goal here is to break it down for a ya little!

Macros are just a different way to track your food. It's different than just calorie counting.

Macros are the Macronutrients in your food.

    We are talking:

    • Fats
    • Carbs
    • Protein

Our body needs ALL of these for different reasons.

Fats keep our lady hormones and hunger hormones balanced. (starved all the time? You may not be eating enough fat)

Carbs are the bodies natural energy source (drained all the time? You may not be getting enough carbs or eating too few calories)

Protein keeps you from losing muscle. Muscles burns fat faster and keeps osteoporosis at bay.

Every body is different, and tracking your macros helps you determine what works best for your body.

Macros done right make weight loss and maintenance easier because you are fueling your body with the nutrients it needs to be healthy.

  • Will Macros Work For Me?

One of the big questions I get is... "I'm not a weightlifter, will macros work for me?"

    The answer is YES!

Macros are "just" a nutritional framework.

But it's a framework that just works!

In reality Macro's work for several reasons!

We will look at 3 reasons why they work.

    1. Tracking

    2. Different Body Types = Different Macros

    3. Using whole foods to reach your Macros and how this helps.

Ya'll know I am a big fan tracking! If we don't know what we are eating and how much, losing is HARD!

One of the perks of macros is that we get to track our food... that make us a #MacroUnicorn.

Another reason they "just work", is because we can learn what macros work for our body type.

There are 3 body types, and each body type thrives on different macros.

It can be difficult to figure out your body type, but a good macro coach can help you determine what macros work for you with a little fun testing and teamwork.

This is what I do in my 30 day program Become a MacroUnicorn.

And the third reason Macros work is kinda of a trick. LOL.

Macros are easier to track and balance out when we eat whole foods.

Whole foods fuel our bodies without added chemical and what I refer to as crap.

Putting good stuff in, makes for a clean running engine. It's higher grade fuel for our bodies to process.

If your curious how you can become a MacroUnicorn check out my 30 day program Become a MacroUnicorn.

  • Macros Are the Bombdigity!

I often credit my weight loss and maintenance to learning what my body needed to lose weight...

But in reality it was with learning about Macros and doing a ton of testing to learn what my body needed that helped me lose weight and keep it off.

    Macros done right:

    1. Provide a flexible eating structure
    2. Balance hormones
    3. Prevent/Break Plateaus

In this episode I break each of these awesome features of Macros down for you, so you decide if they are something you need to investigate.

  • Why Do We Eat Our Emotions With Dr. Nina

Today on the podcast we have a special guest. Dr. Nina Savelle-Rocklin. She is the author of "The Binge Cure, 7 Steps to Outsmart Emotional Eating." This is an amazing book and a book on the reading list of the ONEder Sisters Inner Circle, a membership for creating weight loss habits to help you reach your ONEderland Weight Loss goals.

We have spent a great deal of time as a group discussing the techniques Dr. Nina shares in her book. This book is definitely worth a read, if you struggle with emotional eating.

Dr Nina, joins us today to discuss the article she wrote for Psyche-"How to Stop Emotional Eating".

Today we are going to discuss the following three questions as they relate to weight loss:

    1. Let's talk about cravings... ya know we all have them. From a psychoanalytic approach how do you see cravings?
    2. I love that you say stop dieting. Now I encourage using habits and one of those habits is planning your food for the week, and for some habits that work. But habits are only part of it… When you say: stop dieting I don’t think you mean just have “a food free for all”. What are you advising people to do?
    3. How would you help women overcome feeling powerless? This is often a HUGE reason we as women eat.

    After listening to the podcast if you want to read an amazing article to help you understand why you emotionally eat check out Dr. Nina's article here;

  • Jumping of the Weight Loss Track Without Getting Run Over.

One of my coaching clients had an amazing view of the weight loss track in our private group. I believe this view of dieting and our weight loss journey will be helpful to anyone on a diet journey.

Losing weight and making long term change to be healthy are two different concepts, and until we understand this and start to embody this in our journey it's one big ride in a roller coaster car that is constantly being derailed.

This podcast is all about making long term healthy change and learning to live with the speed with which we reach our goals.

Join me today and learn why you don't want to jump in that rollercoaster car in the first place.

If you would like to jump to her amazing revelation you can fast forward through my rambling to minute 2:15 in the pod cast. What this woman shared was eye opening and should bring joy to all our hearts.

    Sending you love & hugs,

    Coach Michelle

  • I Hated Myself Fat!

    I hated myself fat!

Self hate was a theme in my life. But self hate also kept me from losing weight and keeping it off.

I used the self hate to lose 100+ pounds twice. It worked, but I couldn’t keep it off that way.

I punished myself to lose the weight cutting calories low, and avoiding life situations that included food. I didn’t participate in birthday parties, or eating out or anything that included food.

So since life includes food and food isn’t like other things we feel control us… like alcohol or smoking or any of those other addictive things how do we do this journey without avoiding?

This requires changing a few things, including how we think about ourselves. Switching to caring about myself, and giving myself love allowed me to reach my goal and stay there.

There is a ton of research showing we can’t punish ourselves to change, and the best way to teach change is with love.

If you are hating yourself, and punishing yourself trying to reach ONEderland. But you keep falling waaay off track. This is your chance to see you're not alone and give yourself the gift of realizing you change to self love and reach your goal.

It’s time to stop kicking yourself and start loving yourself to your goal. You will get there a LOT quicker.

You are worth love, and others in your life love you just as you are.
