Around the world, every nation, tongue, and people group loves stories. Stories about their history, their community, their family. Stories about their own lives.
Here in the U.S., especially, story is deeply embedded in our DNA. It’s deeply embedded into our very ways of thinking, feeling, relating, educating, entertaining, understanding, and conducting business.
Contrary to popular rumor, however, our own stories are not supreme. Instead, what’s supreme are the stories by and about God, Creator of heaven and earth, who formed us from the dust of the earth, who loves us, and who sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to be our Lord and Savior.
So, how do we get today’s generation interested in God’s stories? By genuinely being interested in hearing their stories. In our day, people have to pay big bucks to hire a counselor to listen to them without interrupting. Other people aren’t willing to listen like that. They really aren’t.
So, when we listen, people are more vulnerable and willing to open up and talk. They simply need to know you genuinely care enough to listen to them. Do just that! If you take the time to hear their story, you may get the opportunity to share yours. That includes what Jesus has done for you.
