The men’s basketball team was picked to win the AAC 2022-23 championship in the preseason while guard Marcus Sasser was named the preseason player of the year; Jarace Walker as the rookie of the year, Sasser was named to All-Conference First Team and guard Jamal Shead was named to the All-Conference Second Team.

On the women’s side, they were picked to finish second in the American Athletic Conference and guard Laila Blair was a unanimous selection to the conference’s First Team in the preseason.
