The original story of a young mermaid who wished to become a human, marry a young prince and gain an immortal soul is far different from the popular Disney movie. It is far more dark – although we have edited out the most violent portion.

This tragic story – with a happy ending – was writtten by legendary Danish author Hand Christian Andersen and was published in 1837.
