We chat about her writing, her Chamorro and Korean roots, collaboration with her talented artist brother Sonny Chargualaf, and the work that authors Lani Wendt Young and Sisilia Eteuati are doing to uplift other Pasifika writers through Tatou Publishing. Tanya is also a Middle Grade teacher so I was very excited to discuss teacher life with her, as well as the work she is doing around promoting the importance of Diversity, Equity and Identity at her school and in the classroom.

She is an inspirational mentor and role model for our young people and Pasifika women in leadership, and she moves in our communities and spaces of governance focusing on issues such as wellbeing, mental health and suicide prevention. In her current role as Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor Pacific at the University of Auckland, she is using her voice to advocate for our Pasifika student population and their educational needs.
