Ready for the Draft Podcast

Readyforthedraft.com's Gregg Schutze shares his passion for the NFL draft and takes you on a journey leading up to the 2023 NFL Draft.

It's been a minute since the last podcast, so that means lots to catch up on!  Episode 15 takes one last look at Bowl season as I talk through which draft-eligible prospects stood out in the 41 bowl games.

Stay tuned, in a couple of days I'll take a look how this year's crop of underclassmen impacts the 2023 draft class and will preview the all-star games.

I previewed the first 21 bowl games in Episode 13, so it's only fitting that the second installment of the Bowl Preview Series covers the final 20 bowl games.  I talk through what to expect from the draft eligible prospects, including who's opting out to prepare for the draft and what we can expect from those playing.  Expect a review of at least one draft-eligible prospect from each team to keep an eye on.

The regular season has come to a close, which can only mean one thing - Bowl Season is here!  There are several players who have opted out of their bowl game to prepare for the NFL Draft.  I talk about who's in and who's out and discuss at least one draft-eligible prospect who IS playing in the bowl game.  I'll review the first 21 bowl games during this episode and will cover the remaining games in the second half of the bowl preview series.

Conference Championship week is here and after this weekend we'll know who will be punching their ticket to the College Football Playoff.  Gregg takes a look at the matchups facing each of the top four teams in the CFP rankings.  Can Caleb Williams and Co. at USC avenge their only loss against Utah?  Expected 1st Round pick Jordan Addison will be healthy for this game and could be a difference maker.  Can the Trojan defense stop Dalton Kincaid this time around and will the opportunistic defense get to Cameron Rising and force turnovers?  TCU takes on Kansas State in the Big XII Championship after beating them 38-28 in October.  Max Duggan could solidfy his bid to be a Heisman finalist with a huge performance, but the Horned Frogs have to deal with the diminutive Deuce Vaughn, which is not a simple task.  Purdue is representing the Big 10 West and looks to be overmatched against Michigan.  Expect the Wolverines to lean on their dominant O-line.  And with the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs, the one area of concern is the ability to slow down Jayden Daniels on the ground defensively and will Broderick Jones and Co. up frpnt be able to stop BJ Ojulari and Harold Perkins from wreaking havoc in the backfield and getting to Stetson Bennett?

I dedicate Episode 11 to the first two weeks of October.  Hendon Hooker has emerged as a top QB prospect for this year's draft.  His accuracy, decision making and athleticism are on display on a weekly basis, but it's his deep ball that's better than anyone in College Football.  Could he put pressure on Bryce Young, CJ Stroud and Will Levis?  While Jahmyr Gibbs and Bijan Robinson battle it out for the top RB spot, Blake Corum has forced his way into the conversation as a top back.  ANd at wideout, we've been waiting for Quentin Johnston to arrive in 2022 and his performance against Kansas appears to be his breakout game.  TE Dalton Kincaid gave us glimpses of what to expect.  and if you're looking outside the Power 5, UTSA has a paid of WRs we can expect to be drafted on Day 3.  Defensively, Will Anderson, Jr. is back to his usual self after a slow start to the season.  Edge rushers Myles Murphy, Byron Young, Tuli Tuipulotu, BJ Ojulari and Brenton Cox, Jr. have been standouts all season long.

I wrap up Week 4 of the College Football season as we say goodbye to September and hello to conference play in October.  CJ Stroud has emerged as the No. 1 QB after his performance against Wisconsin, while Hendon Hooker is putting pressure on Bryce Young and Will Levis after showing at home against Florida.  On the ground, Blake Corum and Devin Achane introduced themselves to the national stage and firmly in the conversation as top-5 RBs.  Jordan Addison didn't have a single target in the 1st Half against Oregon State, but he emerged late in the game with a TD with less than 90 seconds to play as the Trojans survived in Corvallis.  Up front, Paris Johnson, Jr., Jarrett Patterson and O'Cyrus Torrence proved why they're at or near the top of OL rankings.

Gregg put a wrap on Week 3 of the College football season.  Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix have the Pac-12 talking about their improved play, while Tyler Van Dyke has seen his draft stock take a hit in the ACC.  Jordan Addison looks to be the top WR prospect while Devon Achane, Zach Evans and Eric Gray put together impressive performances.  Defensively, BJ Ojulari is relentless, Isaiah Foskey, Tuli Tuipulotu and Garrett Williams are disruptive, but the player turning heads the most may be Texas Tech DE Tyree Wilson.

Week 2 of the College Football season was definitely a wild one as three teams in the top 10 went down.  Alabama narrowly missed being the fourth team thanks to timely play by reigning Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young.  Jahmyr Gibbs and Bijan Robinson put on a pass-catching display in that game, leading me to declare that Gibbs, Robinson and Georgia's Kenny McIntosh are the top three receiving RB's in this year's draft class.  Will Anderson, Jr. struggled to make an impact until late, but one edge rusher soaring up draft board was Arkansas' Drew Sanders, who was a monster against South Carolina.  And last year's Biletnikoff Award winner Jordan Addison continues to prove why he's the most NFL-ready WR this year.

Week 1 of the 2022 College Football season is finally in the books with the first full slate of games spanning five days.  During that time, I watched 21 games to get a glimpse of the draft-eligible prospects.  I wanted to see how the National Champs would fare against Oregon, if Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith and Christopher Smith could take the reins of the defense and what Stetson Bennett, Kenny McIntosh and Darnell Washington could bring to the table.  How would CJ Stroud fare against the Fighting Irish and who would win the battle between Paris Johnson, Jr. and Isaiah Foskey?  Then there's Anthony Richardson.  I'm definitely on the hype train after a stellar performance versus Utah.  But Brenton Cox, Jr. and Ventrell Miller needed to come up big if the Gators wanted to beat the Utes.  How did that go?  Florida State is 2-0 after a wild win against LSU.  Learn the name Jared Verse, a spectacular transfer edge rusher from Albany.  So many games to cover, so many players to talk about, College Football is officially BACK!

Week 1 of the College Football season is finally here and it may be my favorite season next to draft season of course. With so many matchups over five days of action, I decided to divide my review into two podcast, dedicating Episode 6 to the games on Thursday and Friday.

But first, I recap Northwestern's upset win against Nebraska in Dublin, Ireland where Peter Skoronski put on a show and solidified himself as a top OT prospect with a chance at the top 10. I also talk about five other games I tuned in to see, including Illinois throttling Wyoming 38-6 while being led by RB Chase Brown and Vandy getting a much-needed jumpstart to their season with a 63-10 win over Hawaii with Mike Wright's athleticism under center and Anfernee Orji and Maxwell Worship leading the way defensively.

Thursday games to look at include Central Michigan heading to Stillwater against Oklahoma State, the ex-USC QB matchup of Pittsburgh's Kedon Slovis and West Virginia's JT Daniels in the Backyard Brawl, a B1G showdown with Penn State taking on Purdue and Mizzou hosting LA Tech.

On Friday, Michigan State hosts Western Michigan, Old Dominion and their talented skill position trio of Blake Watson, Ali Jennings and Zack Kuntz host Virginia Tech, Illinois looks to start the season 2-0 traveling to Bloomington to take on the Hoosiers and TCU is hoping to get the connection going early and often between Max Duggan and Quentin Johnston as they take on the Colorado Buffaloes.

College Football is BACK! LET'S GO!!!!
