An important practise that is commonly forgotten, when going for goals or just in life in general, is the habit to show gratitude. I’ve had so much support and I’m still very grateful to people who gave me support in various areas throughout my life.
Take my stroke to marathon goal for example, I’m forever grateful to my coaches for my physical training and their support. But I also had great support with encouragement from people who followed me, such as through social media, and letters from supporters. I had people create events for my fundraising goal, and people attended events that I created – I am super-grateful for that. I had businesses who sponsored me as well.
So always show gratitude; I truly believe this should not be forgotten. For example, I show people gratitude by simply thanking them and letting them know how I truly appreciate them and their support, and how important their involvement has been within my projects. I also share this with others to let people know of their amazing support or the work they’ve put in, and help promote their skills.
This is really important when going for your goals too. There will be individual, or groups that you across that will even just say something kind, to pick you up, when things may seem hard on that particular. It may be colleagues at your work place that may put in an extra effort to help you with a job that you are finding difficult, or to lower your workload. Or you may have a coach, sure you pay them, but also show gratitude by doing the action, whether that be what was asked of you or a simple thank you…even if you are having a down day.
Be polite to the checkout person at your supermarket, I notice when I acknowledge that person and ask how their day is going, they usually respond with a smile, appreciate the acknowledgement, and do the best they can to help you. But this should come from a good place…. not with an expectation of getting something in return.
At the end of a keynote speaking event, I enjoy it when people come up and share their stories with me. It’s awesome! I usually invite people to come up and talk to me and even share what their goal is, or if they’re struggling with something. At one particular event many years ago, two people came up to me, a mother and daughter, to say hi. I remember the mother saying to me, ‘My daughter and I were just talking about how people like yourself … who have been through some sort of struggle … we notice that they come out to be inspiring people. Why is that? What do you put that down to? Can you tell us why and how you’re like that?’
I said to them, ‘Maybe it’s because we’re determined.’ Then I said straight after that, ‘It’s gratitude! I think the main thing is gratitude. Because we’re grateful for where we’ve come from to where we are now.’ I’m speaking for myself here, but I see it a lot in people who’ve been through adversity.
But you may say, I’m in a really tough place, there’s no way I have anything to be grateful for. READ MORE AT SHOW NOTES HERE

Matt Hale is my guest today. Matt is a Hypnotist and Speaker, and has never been the type for doing things the conventional way,
By the tender age of just 15, Matt was already establishing himself as a radio and club DJ in the UK where he grew up.
At 18 he turned down a university place offer to go club DJing in the Greek Islands!
By his twenties he was rocking the airwaves as a presenter on a UK breakfast radio show.
Then in the spirit of adventure, and a romantic encounter, Matt was prompted to move half way around the world to a new life on the sunny shores of Australia.
Within months he’d landed a spot as a comedy writer in radio, eventually moving on as a highly popular producer and presenter for another radio station (winning 3 coveted national awards along the way), and later as a presenter for a popular TV travel show.
Somewhere in the middle of all this, was a year of traveling the world as ‘Crap Elvis.’
Then an interest of Matt’s hit the spotlight and forever changed his life.
Backstory: At Matt’s 21st birthday party there was a hypnotist. Ever since then he’d been fascinated by the idea of what the human mind could achieve if given the right environment and encouragement.
Naturally, Matt being Matt, thought, “I bet I could do that” And so he did!
Matt went out and found the best teachers in the world. He crafted, re-crafted and perfected the perfect stage presentation—earning rave review after rave review from audiences around the world.
Now he takes attendees to new heights of productivity and performance with some clever mind hacks, and possibly make their faces ache from laughter!
Matt’s favourite past-times are surfing, snowboarding and travelling with his partner, Kathryn.
Matt lives in Western Australia.

It’s been said to me many times: ‘Donna, I do this…, this…and this… in my business.’ My dream goal is to do this, this AND this…But they’re not fully certain about what their actual goal is OR what the end result looks like…example who they serve and what solution they are offering their client/customer, whether it’s a product or service, if its business related, or the outcome they want may be a personal goal.
Having clarity in your goal can sometimes be tricky to pinpoint.
For example: Many business owners want to help everyone and anyone! But the majority of the time, that doesn’t work!’
I will demonstrate here how you can get past the start line, with a clear path and an ‘I can attitude.’
There are many benefits you’ll get from this, but firstly, what’s important to you?
Let me remind you… that this is your dream – it’s nobody else’s, you own it.
Remember, this can be in business or a personal dream or goal.
When you own it and have the clarity of what the goal is about, you gain certainty.
You need to know when you’re going to start this goal, and know what solution you’re going to solve.
Make a statement that’s specific about your goal, and the problem you are solving for yourself or even your clients/customers…. if this is biz related.
When you make your statement, this gives you the certainty and confidence to move forward, which then gives you courage.
For example: I have used this exercise in workshops I’ve conducted and seen the amazing shift in people’s realisation of the clarity they need to gain and get specific about with their goal.
The exercise goes like this: I ask people to get in groups of 2.
They usually have 5 minutes to do this exercise, with someone they don’t know.
In this group of 2, there is Person A is the speaker, and person B is the listener.
Person says the following:
My name is:
I learned from:
So now I help people with:
I do this by being:
I love doing this as:

Carol was born and bred in Toronto where she fulfilled a life-long dream of following in the footsteps of her family, and served as a member of the Toronto Police Force,
leading an exciting life as a Police Officer in Canada where she
worked undercover in the drug squad for 4 years.
But life was about to change dramatically.
Carol fell in love with an Australian, married and moved half way around the world and settled in Melbourne.
After competing in Hobart at the Masters Swimming Nationals in 1998, she awoke one morning with disturbing balance problems and double vision, symptoms of multiple sclerosis. After an array of tests, she was bluntly told at the age of thirty-six "You have MS. Go home and get your affairs in order before you become incapacitated."
Devastated and having only been married for three years and no immediate family around, her thoughts revolved around how she was going to cope with this disease.
Fortunately, Carol found the determination and spirit to defy what this doctor had told her.
As a swimmer, rower and cyclist Carol has proved her versatility in sport over the last 48 years and now at an age where most people are thinking of retirement Carol continues to race at an elite international level.
Carol is an inspiration to everyone she meets including me.
In 2011 Carol took up Para Cycling and has gone on to win 3 Gold Medals at two Paralympic Games.
She has won 9 World Championships and continues to compete internationally.
She is also the founder of the MS 24 Hour Mega Swim in 2001, which is one of the fastest growing fundraising events in Australia and has raised over 10 million dollars which provides scholarships to people living with Multiple Sclerosis to follow a dream.
Carol was named in the 2014 Australia Day Honours List being named a Member of the order of Australia (AM). She received this award in recognition of her significant service to sport as a gold medalist at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, and for fundraising and representational roles with charitable healthcare organisations.
In 2015 Carol became an author of her book ‘Finding Your Inner Gold.’
Carol believes that, nothing is impossible if we dare to face our fears and believe in ourselves.

‘Move out of your comfort zone. You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new.’ – Brian Tracey
Moving out of our comfort zone is a major leap when going for your big goal, but this is where the real action begins for us to reach that big goal.
Why? Well, it takes you to places you’ve never been to. It can be scary, but exciting too. When I’m facing a big challenge, people may ask, ‘Are you scared, Donna?’ And I’ve said at times, ‘Well, yeah, it’s a bit scary, but I’m excited too!’
That’s what challenges are about. They help you to grow. And they’re invigorating, too. So, a positive challenge will propel you to move forward, rather than backward when getting out of your comfort zone.
If you’re doing something the same all the time and you’re not getting anywhere with your goal, that’s when you have to make a decision and say, ‘What do I have to do differently?’ Maybe you have to make that scary call you’ve been avoiding in your business, or that conversation you’ve wanted to have with your boss to ask for that pay rise, or maybe you need, or maybe you just have to say no for a change, instead of saying yes? And so on, and so on…
‘If you want something you’ve never had, then you’ve got to do something you’ve never done.’ – Unknown
I find that when people do stay in their comfort zone, they get stuck or stay in the same spot. They’re not reaching their goal, because they stay in fear of the unknown. They don’t progress or move forward to reach their target. But I want you to reach that target, That’s the reason I’m addressing this, there are many excuses or reasons to avoid this tough topic.
Science has found that a moderate level of uncertainty and anxiety can help people be ready for anything. People who are out of their comfort zones are better at multitasking and more aware of potential problems. Dr Stephen Josephson, a psychologist in New York City who has treated athletes, actors and musicians, has said: ‘Coaches and sports psychologists have always known that you don’t want your athlete to be relaxed right before an event. You need some ‘juice’ to go fast.’ Is that juice fear, nervous energy, or excitement perhaps?
In the beginning, to move out of your comfort zone can be a huge, scary thing. When you make it a habit – to jump out and think outside the square to get to your goal – this is where the magic happens.
When it comes to moving out of your comfort zone, I also advise seeking a mentor: someone who’s already done this particular goal, or something similar. You may not know anyone who has done what you want to do, and that can make it big and scary as well. But if you seek a mentor, that can be really helpful and get you charged.
Ask around. These are the times where you say your goal out loud. Perhaps you don’t want to tell the whole world yet? Perhaps you just want to talk to close friends about it and ask them, ‘Do you know anyone who has done this?’ Maybe they’ll be able to help you, or put the word out for you.

Duncan’s life is full, but he sees himself as a pretty regular guy with a passion for his family and sport.
He has a busy career and has worked in England, the Middle East and Africa.
AND He’s also adventurous when it comes to sport – and he never turns down a sporting challenge.
Duncan was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1986 when he was 14 and since then, he’s calculated he probably has had over 36,000 insulin injections and 60,000 blood glucose tests.
He knows first-hand how type 1 makes life and sport harder, but he’s positive and thinks - in fact - he is fitter for having it.
Duncan takes his body, mind and type 1 to surprising extremes and in 2013 he ran six marathon’s in six days in Australia’s Simpson Desert. He’s done several more endurance races and adventures since then.
He says he thrives on them and is better at them because of type 1 diabetes.
He’s learned plenty from his experiences with Type 1 diabetes, that he’s passionate about sharing with others.
He had mixed feelings when diagnosed, but he just got on with life and tried not to let it change him.
In the early days there’s a lot to learn about nutrition, how to manage insulin and when to test your blood. But now, it’s just routine – it’s second nature.
Duncan claims to feel fitter for having it than he would have been from not having diabetes.
He exercises a lot, and is careful about what he eats, and more resilient from the extra challenges diabetes brings.
Duncan has gone on to more long races, and staged running adventures. Each one pushes him to his limits, bringing out the best in him. He has stated: They take you to incredible highs and points on the race that almost crush you. That’s a bit like the relentless and every day moments of living with Type 1.
Duncan lives in Sydney, Australia.
He has supportive wife, and two children. And wants to share his experiences to inspire others more recently diagnosed with diabetes, or even without, especially kids, that anything is possible.

How can I get past the ‘I Can’t’ attitude?
All too often the words ‘I can’t’ can easily fall out of our mouths. If said too often, it can become an embedded belief that will never get you to that big goal you dream about.
When you take this belief out of your mind, then you gain confidence and the courage to achieve.
If we keep saying, ‘I can’t’, we actually tend to believe it after a while and the people around us do too; they’re not going to expect big things out of you, and neither are you!
Instead, we can create a habit to ask ourselves, ‘How can I?’
Have you ever noticed when someone asks you, ‘Can you do this?’ You’re either going to say yes or no. It’s just a one-word answer, isn’t it?
What if someone asked, ‘How can you?’ These words are great! It’s an interesting question to ask, because it actually makes you think instead of just saying yes or no. It’s easy to say no and it’s easy to make excuses – but, ‘How can I? How can I do this? How can I do that? How can I achieve my big scary goal?’ This is what it’s all about.
If there’s a big goal that you’ve been dreaming about and you’ve been either too scared or allowed someone to put it in your mind that it’s crazy, I understand. I’ve been there.
Through my experiences and what I have achieved, I’ll share my insights, not just from what I’ve achieved, but also from struggles and tough times that I’ve had as well. It hasn’t all been sunshine and lollipops, as they say.
Here, we’re going to learn new things about ourselves. When asking yourself, ‘Can I? Is it possible?’ a lot of people make excuses. Often, it’s either time or money stopping people achieving their big goals.
Sound familiar? I’ve had those reasons too, believe me. But then I stopped to think, ‘Okay, surely I can find another way. How can I possibly afford to do this? How can I find the time to do this?’
Two great questions. To find a solution, you need to think outside the box.
The thing is, if you ask yourself ‘can I’ instead of ‘how can I’, you’re always going to dream; you’ll never achieve that big goal and live with regret until the day you die.
We don’t want this to happen. I really want to help you by sharing my experiences, insights and steps for you to achieve your big, scary goal.
Moving past the ‘I can’t,’ is an important mind shift to achieving your goal. Believing you can is the first step when beginning the Baby Step Method to achieve your goals.
This is evident with many of our goals – some may seem like a crazy idea at first. But fixing in our mind that nothing could stop me from doing this, is the mindset we want, how much do you really want this?
We can all easily come up with so many excuses, we’re experts at that! But do you want to be that person?
‘Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right.’ – Henry Ford
Focusing on your goal and not allowing other things to get in your way is a major path to success. But things in life will get in your way – that’s just life.
We can come up with plenty of reasons to say, ‘This it’s all too hard, I can’t possibly do this.’ Continue reading show notes at: https://donnacampisi.com/ready-set-goal/
