On this episode of Chattel Fixtures PEI Real Estate Podcast, we have PEI’s most prominent developer, Tim Banks. Tim and his affiliated companies are currently in the process of building hundreds of homes for the PEI housing supply.

In addition to Tim’s many business and development achievements, one of the things I admire about Tim is his willingness to open himself up to criticism by engaging in conversation on essential topics on PEI, with a particular emphasis on housing.

One of the big ironies is that Tim often gets a lot of pushback from affordable housing advocates. Yet, Tim may, arguably, be the person doing the most on PEI to fix the housing crisis by building up the supply side - including hundreds of affordable units.

In this episode, we will discuss the importance of developing the supply side, what gets things built, unintended consequences of certain well-meaning government interventions, how to maintain and build vitality in our communities on PEI, and any other topic we veer into.

This is a very special episode of the Chattel Fixture PEI Real Estate Podcast. 

When I found out that Kelly Lantz was joining forces with Kris Fournier and Catherine Fournier and the Kris Fournier/We Know PEI team at RE/MAX Charlottetown, I felt this surge of excitement. I was inspired, and excited, to see these forces combine and to be able to watch it so closely with my daily interactions with Catherine and Kris. 

But beyond my personal excitement, it is surely one of the big moves of 2023 in the PEI real estate business. When I noticed Alicia and Cecilia were co-listing a property. I thought I’d like to learn what that is all about and share those learnings with you, the listener.

Alicia Hegarty, who was in my pre-licensing course, is a REALTOR® with the Anthony Delodder team at Royal LePage. Prior to her moving into this line of work she had years of experience working with contractors as she and her husband invested in multiple homes. She spent 10 years working in family service which lends itself very well to helping people in the midst of one of the most important financial and life decisions they will ever experience - the purchase or sale of a house.

Cecilia Williams is a REALTOR® with Northern Light Realty. She moved to the Island from Ontario in late 2015, where she worked in hospitality and agriculture. She has an honours degree in Bio-Resource Management from the University of Guelph and currently lives in Charlottetown with her six-year-old daughter. She sits on the Board of Directors as Director of Communication and Secretary for Fusion Charlottetown, a local nonprofit. Ciaran was born in the UK and moved to Canada at age 6 and grew up in and around the New Glasgow, Rustico, and Hunter River areas. He began working in financial services in 2006 focusing on insurance and investments. He started with RBC in 2010 when he began learning borrowing and credit applications. He has also been a mortgage specialist since 2021.

When I was asking around for which home stager on PEI to get on the podcast - one name came up more than anyone else - Sarah Waterfield. Specifically, Mike Thompson from Odyssey Virtual and Mary Jane Webster from RE/MAX Charlottetown suggested Sarah.

David ‘Lobie’ Daughton is a Senior Partner at Healthy Community Partners. He has worked as the principal co-operative developer in PEI and NB, helping to form dozens of new co-operatives and assisting many established co-ops. From 2005 to 2011, David served as a community researcher in the “Atlantic Social Economy & Sustainability Research Network” Community University Research Alliance (CURA), also working on the evaluation team, and contributing to a chapter of the CURA’s book. Daughton was the founding President of Canada’s “CoopZone Developers’ Network Co-op” where he helped develop curriculum for Canada’s first distance education course for Co-op Developers. He also played a lead role in establishing the Community Sector Network of PEI and was elected as the President at their founding Annual General Meeting in 2019. 

As a food activist, David has run restaurants and food businesses in the UK, the USA and Canada, taught cooking classes, researched food security, and has cooked for celebrities from ABBA to Zappa, and from Michio Kushi to Benji the Dog.
