If you've been following me since 2009 you may recall a phase where I went all in on my physical health. At that time I had just become a father, my marriage was ending, I was overweight (269 lbs) and had developed Type 2 Diabetes. My life was a real shitshow and it needed to be addressed or I would be on medication for the rest of it. I LOVE being a dad so I decided it was time to do something. I simply got up off my ass, went for a walk, changed my diet and presto, shit got better. I've been thinking about that phase of my life a lot lately. It's hard to explain in a post but ever since the Quarantine period during the Spring of 2020 I've just felt like my life has gotten off course. Today, my attention span is shit, my eating habits are less than ideal and I've lacked discipline in most areas of my life. I'm not blaming all of that on Covid, because all of those things are based on my personal choices. I'm simply saying, I've noticed these things, I'm accountable and now I intend to correct them. Over the next 6 weeks I'm going to do what I've called a "45 Day factory reset" I choose 45 days because it allows wiggle room on a 30 day challenge which should limit any frustrations or anxiety that arises from not achieving one of my daily goal while still keeping me focused on the task at hand. 45 days should also be enough time to develop healthier habits moving forward.
1. 10K steps a day (minimum) outdoors where the graphics are great wearing my neoprene weight kutting shirt and a hoodie to pull all of the toxins out of me.
2. 1 hour everyday in the weight room pushing weight not standing around talking or using a bike, treadmill or other machine. I should feel these workouts!
3. Drink 3.7 liters of water everyday to replace the water I'm pulling out walking. Call it a human cleanse. Every year we flush the radiator and AC in the car, I'm doing it to my body.
4. Eat healthy: only lean proteins (skinless chicken breast, steak and salmon) with fresh greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, mushrooms, carrots, radishes, bananas, watermelon, pineapple, apples, oranges, grapes, blackberries and nuts.
5. NO - fast food, carbonated drinks, sugary drinks, energy drinks, caffein, processed lunch meats, canned foods, bread, pasta or rice.
6. No more Social. Deactivating Twitter and Instagram. Limiting posts on Facebook to business and updates.
7. Read 1 book a week. After I read “A River runs thru it” last week I actually felt more alert. It’s hard to explain but it’s something I want to expand on. I’ve picked a handful of books that are all quick reads and exhibit characteristics that I’m personally looking for. That said I believe EVERY man should read once in their life.
A. The Sun Also Rises - Earnest Hemingway
B. The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald
C. The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin - Big Ben
D. The Call of the Wild - Jack London
E. Rich Dad Poor Dad - Robert Kiyosaki
Current weight - 215
Current screen time - absurd
Current level of maturity - high school LOL
Don’t worry I’m not going to blow up this page with progress reports or motivational memes. I’m going to podcast the process because talking into my AirPods recording those shows is kind of a cathartic process. Who knew?’ Anyway, lets see where I'm at around Easter or more specifically in 45 days. If anybody wants to walk shoot me a text or drop me a DM.
Pray for my 13 yo son who has to suffer along with me 😂
