The Tao of Shawn
10 lessons I’ve learned over the last 10 years
#1. The older I get, the more I realize it’s less about what I want and more about what I’m willing to give up.
#2 The best question I ever asked myself was “What pain am I willing to put up w/ in my life?” That question took me where I wanted to go. Basically it’s about picking the bullshit I was willing to deal with to get the quality of life I want.
Professionally- long nights, Sundays in the office, out bound calls, all of the horrible networking shit and the idiots you meet = the amazing job and financial security
Relationships- all of the tough conversations, awkward silences, the hurt feelings, silly DRAMA = the great sex, laughter and awesome relationships
#3. I have far less time on this planet than I think so the name of the game NOW is to use my time well. There are A LOT more days in the review mirror than in the windshield so respect the present.
#4. A nice dinner with the people I love and enjoy being around is a 10x’ better than attending a party or event with hundreds of people I don’t know.
#5. Waking up early and going for a walk really is the shit. I’m grateful for my health and intend to take advantage of it as long as I can.
#6. When you achieve your dreams it never really feels the way you thought it would. That’s not to diminish an accomplishment it’s just an “ok.. now what?!” moment.
#7. Expectations just fuck you up and fear of failure is the ultimate weakness.
~ I’ve found the real trick in life is too bite off more than I can chew and then just fucking chew. Don’t be afraid to act without knowing the result. Don’t be afraid to make a decision. Don’t be afraid to do new things. When you do act stop taking everything personally after you do that.
8. If you want to be successful you have to clearly define what that means to yourself.
9. Fucktards are cancer! Fuck excuses from other people, don’t tolerate fake people, get rid of haters and negative talkers.
10. Every moment we are in a bad relationship we’re missing an opportunity to grow personally and find a good one

forgiveness is as a conscious, deliberate decision to release feelings of resentment or vengeance toward a person or group. It sounds easy enough right? Unfortunately for most people the "reason" a relationship is severed or a wedge is driven becomes an actual commitment not just a feeling and stubbornness/ pride prevents them from reversing their decision
Why carry that type of weight on silly matters?

Parenting is never easy, but it's been even more difficult this past week. In this episode I discuss the tragic loss of a young person's life and the way it's impacted me as a parent. I go into the idea of confidence and shyness and the difference between the two traits depending on the age of a child. I reflect on rejection and the illusion of being invisible at time.

When fear and anxiety are overcome they become confidence
When you develop that level of confidence you become a dangerous person!
Keep grinding, you're almost there.

Monday Morning QB'ing - Episodes devoted to dating in your 40's and 50's
In this episode I provide some insight into what you can expect to find in the dating cesspool that exists today.
1. You meet someone close in age who’s divorced but their kids are all grown up, so they don’t want to be around young kids any longer. They would rather act like they're 20 again and want to make up for what they missed out on.
2. You meet someone who hasn’t gotten over somebody else and all they want to do is get back at that person, so they never stop talking about them
3. You meet someone who has never been married who has never had kids & you realize very quickly why that is.
4. You meet a person just like yourself, divorced very close in age, they have young children and a good career but there isn’t any time to make it work and you both realize it.
5. You have a nice head of hair, good metabolism and a good job so you decide to date down in age. Trust me, you can go pretty low actually but what you’ll discover at those depths is there’s nothing really in common. Typically, you just find someone who needs something, and everything becomes boring really quickly.
