If the theme of our last episode was the limbo realm of uncertainty, then the theme for this one is introspective resolve. While everything's still very much up in the air as to how humanity will land when this is over, we're all gaining a little perspective on our past lives, and embracing the silver linings. Shannon calls these milestones "psychic shifts," a sudden or dramatic shock to our everyday that sets us off on a different course. Once that feeling starts to wear off, we can take action and better our situation. Elisha and Shannon take a moment to applaud the strength and love of Portland's small business community, how we're reassessing our mindless shopping habits accordingly, and reassure us that, whatever happens, we will rebuild. Last episode, we discussed the dissociation many of us feel when it comes to knowing our own vaginas. All the unnecessary denial and shame that comes with money, whether loaded, or living paycheck to paycheck. Elisha and Shannon have always been open about their past struggles with alcoholism, and what it took to get back on the path to sobriety. But what happens when you're in a relationship defined by alcoholism, and you break away... but your partner doesn't? In this deeply personal episode, Elisha reveals the history behind her recent break up with a partner of 15 years, and how she's no longer living with excuses of guilt, shame, or commitment. Both of your RTRC hosts strongly believe that being visible in discussing alcoholism can literally save lives, and Elisha has now freed herself from the ongoing dread of expecting a visit from the police with tragic news at 2am. The hard work that she's invested in herself over the past few years has given her the strength to step out on her own - to put herself and her children first - while keeping compassionate distance from her ex's self destructive behaviors. This is an intimate, critical conversation that needs to be heard.
