I aimed to investigate some of the historical roots behind the medical mistrust seen in much of the Black community–particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic. I interviewed Mr. Oliver Johnson, a 78 year-old first-generation Northern-born Black man born and raised in Benton Harbor, MI. I asked Mr. Johnson a series of 7 questions (see interview guide below) to assess his lived experiences and perception of healthcare access, the health care system, medical mistrust while growing up, and how his constructed perspective influenced his risk perception during the Covid-19 pandemic (e.g.regarding Covid-19 vaccine).
