Boy was I sock-er free for this episode back in Studio!
Moshood from Emowa Socks came through with a care package and told all about the sock company him and his partners created.

Their designs are inspired by traditional flags, textiles, ceremonial garb and culture from different traditions of Africa; and each sock has a significance.
So next time you have your achilles out and flexing your ankle, you’ll have a story to tell, for the culture!

Power is a drug they say.
They also say, power to the people; dare we say: soft power to the people!
Melissa Saenz Gordon and Glenn Robinson were our guests for this episode. They introduced us to Soft Power Vote. The platform was created to provide voting information to New Yorkers about local politics.

The concept is scalable; listen to their story. It may inspire you to level up where you live!

For "non-writers" writing can appear to be this unsolved mystery that can't be elucidated.
Fear not because we can be grateful of writers and creative coaches like Amie McNee!

In this episode she generously shared about her writing experiences, the support she provides to creatives and inevitably, how all this is concurrent to her growth as a person.

Man! writer or not, I guarantee this episode will give you a zing of motivation to big up yourself!

Yes sports are back but the social justice activity hasn’t stopped.
Eric Kasoyaga combines the two.
On this episode, we discussed the community focus at the heart of his nonprofit: Kupaa Foundation. Through basketball they built a bridge connecting Canada’s youth to Tanzania.

It’s nice to have someone that represents you well, looks out for your best interest personally and financially in every situation.

I guess we should all have an agent; if so I’d recommend RLA Management.
Wes Alston is our guest on this episode as we discussed his work managing athletes and supporting them as growing individuals.
No knowledge of sports necessary to partake in listening to this podcast.

Nothing was lost in translation during my discussion with journalist, filmmaker and photographer Feilin Gao. She graciously shared information about her life experience, and we discussed her most recent project #freemask.
Social justice has been pulling at the strings of her life; some may call fate the fact that she would find herself in NYC in a pandemic in 2020.

As we continue to have discussions with people who have boots on the ground and their hands in the work of social justice, the Executive Director of United Community Centers (UCC) Ana Aguirre was gracious enough to sit down with us.
The work required to affect long term change necessitates stamina and hearing Ms. Aguirre discuss the work being done by UCC, the endurance that emanates from their track record is undeniable.
One arm can protest in the street and one arm can protest in the offices and halls of power as the community continues to build the structures it needs to support itself: UCC is one asset on all those chessboards of society.

Sonali and I recorded this discussion early on in this period of protest.
We reached out to her for answers to our curiosity about the growing popularity of pole dancing as a now « gentrified » form of exercise. We learned about the strength, healing and growth that emanates from that mounted metallic mast.
You can learn a thing or two from pole masters!

I was introduced to the concept of mutual aid at work as a process through which businesses support each other in times of disaster. Flatbush United is the community version of it.
Laura Jean-Jacques introduced us to this community group that came together in March and created a  safe space of interdependency.
