We all have an inner critic that holds us back from our true potential. Rebecca Doring knows this all too well from her own journey of self-healing and helping others do the same. In her conversation with hosts Walt and Jodielynn on LOA Today, Rebecca shared powerful insights on how to get past self-doubt and bring your gifts to the world.
Rebecca became aware of her own inner critic through years of yoga practice and working with mentors. “One of the things that keep us stuck in our own way, keep us cycling, and often can perpetuate a negative thought spiral that’s just sending us down a place that might not actually be true, but our brain is telling us that this is true. Is the self judgment cycle, the criticism, the inner critic saying, Oh, who am I to do that? I can’t do that. I don’t have what it takes,” she said. We all struggle with these negative thoughts, but recognizing them is the first step to freedom.
Jodielynn asked Rebecca how we can start seeing ourselves in a new light. Rebecca’s advice? Get curious. “The antidote to judgment is curiosity. And the antidote to the inner critic is self compassion,” she explained. By questioning our limiting beliefs with compassion, we gain insight into our true selves.
Rebecca also shared how she coaches people through journaling to access their inner wisdom. Walt was curious how mainstream medical professionals receive these “woo” concepts. Rebecca finds they are open once trust is built. “I teach in concepts…so you don’t know that I just taught you a yoga sutra,” she said with a laugh.
As Rebecca says, “If it’s in your heart, it’s yours to teach.”
