Rebinge Deep Space Nine

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 24: Body Parts. Jeffrey Combs returns as Brunt as Quark gets himself into hot water (again). Meanwhile, Kira finds herself pregnant with an O'Brien! Whaaat!?

After the grimmest episode in Star Trek history (The Quickening), we go a little lighter with some Ferengi nonsense. In this episode, Quark thinks he's dying so he sells his remains on the futures market only to find out he's not really dying and his one customer isn't interested in a refund. Uh oh. This could only happen to Quark. Meanwhile, Kira ends up carrying the O'Brien baby when Keiko is injured - this seems very awkward.

It's a re-watch of a thing you've already seen but love to watch and talk about. We go deep with every episode, walking you through every scene and analyzing all of the characters and story lines.

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 23: The Quickening where Bashir and Dax land on a Gamma Quadrant planet overcome by an artificially created virus called the blight. Bashir can't just ignore the needs of the sick people that he sees and he jumps in to save the day. Well...that's not exactly what happens. Join us for a discussion of (maybe) the most depressing episode of Star Trek in Trek history.

You know how we keep saying that nothing good ever happens in the gamma quadrant? Well...welcome to another terrible planet where terrible things happen! And Bashir drops in to help and makes things oh so much worse! Bashir and Dax find that the Dominion has essentially destroyed the people of this planet who were feeling a little too superior by cursing them with an incurable disease. Everyone has it and the infrastructure has completely crumbled and this is the planet where hope dies.

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 22: To the Death where Sisko and crew team up with some Jem'Hadar soldiers after an attack on the station. This episode introduces us to Weyoun as played by frequent guest star Jeffery Combs and another scary alien played by Brian Thompson of X-Files fame. Well nothing good happens when the Jem'Hadar turn up and this episode is no different!

The station is attacked and looted by some rebel Jem'Hadar dudes. Sisko takes the Defiant on a hunt for the attackers and bumps into some other Jem'Hadar dudes on a ship about to explode. They form an uneasy alliance in search of the attackers and try to find a way to work together. Let's just say...it does not go smoothly.

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 21: For the Cause where Sisko has to face some harsh realities about his girlfriend and Snodgrass shoots Major Kira! Penny Johnson Jerald returns as Kasidy Yates and Ken Marshall as Snodgrass/Eddington plus a new face in Tracy Middendorf as Ziyal. And everybody has some secrets in this episode, especially Snoddy. How dare he shoot Kira!

This is not Sisko's best day on the job. In addition to finding out some surprising things about his own girlfriend, he learns some very dark secrets about Commander Eddington (aka Snodgrass). Snoddy makes a pretty fatal mistake at the end of the episode which he'll likely live to regret. Meanwhile, Ziyal and Garak are having some kind of peculiar flirty interactions while lying on some rocks like lizards.

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 20: The Muse where Lwaxana Troi turns up with a big surprise and a creepy alien preys on Jake's writing talents. Even though the creepy alien is supposed to be the muse, we also learn that Lwaxana has had a similar muse-like impact on Odo! There are some surprises in this wildly underrated episode and also some genuine "ewww" moments. It's always nice to see a guest appearance from Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, but we also have an interesting performance from Meg Foster as the alien.

In this episode a creepy alien turns up and starts sucking the life force out of Jake while supposedly turning him into a great writer. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if she didn't also rub it all over herself while hiding out with him in the bowels of the station. I mean this is gross. Meanwhile, Lwaxana Troi turns up pregnant and in need of help from Odo who in this episode surprises himself when he examines their relationship. Turns out he kind of digs her.

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 19: Shattered Mirror where we once again go through the looking glass into the dark, but lively Mirrorverse. There is more of Leather Kira to behold and this time we get a few more doppelgangers like Worf and Nog. Where is Mirror Kai Winn?? While it's a treat to see Mirror Worf and a Mirror Defiant, we're not so sure about some of the questionable acting or the questionable hair choices here. Why does the mirrorverse ruin your hair?

In this episode Jake meets up with his mom's doppelganger and follows her through the looking glass into the Mirror Universe! Sisko heads through behind them determined to bring Jake home, but Smiley and friends have some other plans. So Sisko tries to help them get the Defiant in working order to fend off the attacking Alliance.

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 18: Hard Time where Miles serves a 20 year prison sentence in his mind. Miles is clearly the emotional punching bag of DS9 as he gets into another torturous situation where he thinks he's lost everything. This is an emotional, harrowing story where Colm Meaney really shines.

In this episode we learn that Miles has lived a virtual prison sentence. When he's rescued, he needs to try and re-incorporate himself into his own life. But it doesn't go well as he is hallucinating and continuing to suffer the trauma of his inhumane incarceration. Can the invisible counselor save him before it's too late?

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 17: Rules of Engagement where Worf is on trial for murder! Yep, you read that right. We have guest star Ron Canada as a Klingon...lawyer...we think? And we have that classic Trek trope of the captain acting as their crew member's lawyer. What happens to lawyers in the future? Anyway...that's for a different episode, in this one we are defending Worf from the Klingons!

In this episode Worf is on trial for firing on a civilian Klingon ship...which seems like an oxymoron. Anyway, the Klingons want Worf extradited to their court system. So we're supposed to believe Klingons have lawyers, civilians AND a court system?? Seems far fetched. Anyway, this very engaging episode is full if interesting directing choices as we watch the story unfold.

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 16: Accession where Sisko has to face (again) his role as Emissary to the Prophets. While he's kind of settled uncomfortably into the role, he's also very happy to take an out when he sees one. Guest star Richard Libertini turns up as a blast from Bajor's past.

In this episode the wormhole spits out a 200 year old light ship that holds the Emissary...wait a minute we already have one of those! Sisko quickly hands the role over to the new guy, but it's clear the "new" guy has a lot of very old ideas and he wants to take Bajor back to their caste system of the past. Not only is this bad news for Bajor's entry to the Federation but it's pretty much bad news for anyone who wants make decisions about their own lives. This brings an immediate crisis to Kira and her future on the station. Time to have a chat with the Prophets!

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 15: Bar Association where Rom tries to form a union. We've got Nausicaans and Jeffrey Combs and Starfleet officers brawling over stuff they shouldn't care about. And...oh yeah...Worf moves out to the garage to live in his car.

In this episode Rom decides to form a union with Quark's waitstaff and Quark is not amused. Quark treats them like garbage and docks their pay and we're supposed to believe that Ferengi workers just put up with this treatment all the time! Brunt turns up to try and put a stop to the union nonsense and nobody seems to care that he brings a couple of Nausicaan thugs along to beat someone (Quark) to death! Where is Odo while this is happening? This is a peculiar episode with a couple of holes in the story!

It's a re-watch of a thing you've already seen but love to watch and talk about. We go deep with every episode, walking you through every scene and analyzing all of the characters and story lines.
