In our first edition, we bring you an interview with Hynek Martinec, an artist deeply rooted in craft and process. Having studied the Old Masters, he works with technical mastery, but wields it in modern ways – frequently querying issues of the future.The conversation was held at Hypha Studios South Bank gallery on 05 September 2026, where Martinec had recently completed an intricate 17 metre long mural in charcoal and chalk directly onto the gallery walls - a work that will be ceremonially destroyed in a public event at the end of its presentation. It is part 1 of 'Applecore', with part two presented at Varvara Roza Galleries in Mayfair, London, from 30 September to 20 October.
