Dr. Maurice Pickard speaks with Dr. Jorge Girotti about the Hispanic Centers for Excellence. Medical schools utilizing this important program are assisting high-achieving Latino students to become physicians so as to better meet the bilingual, culturally sensitive medical needs from all American communities. At the same time this curriculum is improving the clinical experience for ALL students by increasing cultural competencies. However, challenges have emerged as the centers face severe budgetary cutbacks from the government, forcing several closings nationwide.
