In which our hero talks s*** with lo-fi hip-hop artist George Wakerley aka Confidential

In this weeks show I'm joined by George Wakerley, aka Confidential to go through the 10 questions about his record collection and the important influences on his music.

While George produces really cool lo-fi hip hop, some of his influences are at the other end of the music spectrum as we get chatting about his days in metal bands, his love for a classical guitarist and a fondness for a band I haven't heard from in 20 years!

As usual, he leaves a very special track for our Playlist for the Ages, and its a bit of a surprise!

Ian joins me this week to go through the 10 questions I'm asking all our new guests so we'll be getting into his Top 3 albums, a band he loves but no one else seems to care for and his perfect festival line up and takes me far away from my wheelhouse.

He also leaves us a song to add to our Playlist for the Ages.

Please check out Ian's podcasts (links below) follow him on Twitter and remember to keep up with playlist on the website where you can also read about some of the records and bands we cover in the show

Welcome to Records & Bands where we're trying out a new format to the show where I invite cool people onto the show to talk about their music and their record collections.

Each time I'll be asking a different guest the same 10 questions as we try and bring some new voices and music to the show.

Playing guinea pig for the first show in this new format is Sam Jones who you may know from Alvin & the Angry Barrels or long term listeners to this show may remember him as co-host, although it's been a while.

So join us as we go through his favourite records, his first gig, his perfect festival line up and loads more before we settle on the ONE song he would add to a playlist for the aliens to find.

You can find all the final song choices on a playlist on Apple Music, Spotify or on the website.

In which our heroes talk s*** about Over The Counter Culture from The Ordinary Boys.

This is definitely one of Sam's bands but he's well enabled tonight by Jamie (Talking Dad) and Aaron (Last Jedi on the Left) to talk about some ska tinged indie fare from the early 2000s.

We choose the best tracks on the record, the parts we'd love to have written and discuss how it stands up against its peers in an age of great debut records. Sam remembers youthful gigs in sweaty clubs and we ask, in honour of Preston, Which TV panel show would you storm off in a huff?

In which our heroes talk s*** about Simple Minds.

In todays show we invite two Simple Minds super-fans to tell us all we've been missing out on from the 80s megastars

Like Leon and I, Jon and Shaun have a friendship born out of love for one band in particular so they take us to school with a Simple Minds 101 class. They give us a little history of the band, talk about their experiences following the band and talk about the big hits and essential albums.

They then take us on a Simple Minds deep dive as they talk through their 10 favourites Simple Minds songs while Leon and I give our uneducated opinions.

Stick around to the end for some terrible Simple Minds puns, courtesy of yours truly.

In which our heroes talk s*** about making records.

This week we're joined by Ryan Jordan from AR Studios who you may remember from our Smashing Pumpkins show a while back. After we recorded that album review, Ryan was kind enough to hang around and chat about the work he does in the studio, including working with Sam on his Christmas projects and with Alvin and the Angry Barrels.

During the podcast we discuss the differences in the roles of producer and engineer, some of Ryan own music and the incestuous nature of local bands.
