But it happened, and with Jay back at the Bakery, it’s up to Pat and Truman to talk about Goal-zalo Veron stealing the win, technical difficulties, and bad defending. Then they wonder if the team can beat the Revs again at Harvard in the Open Cup. Plus there’s a little Gold Cup to mention, Sky Blue winning, Brandon Allen moving(?) and the usual random nonsense. So, about Red Bull Arena being a fortress. So much for that right? A 2-0 loss to New York City is bad. A 2-0 loss where you don’t look competitive and only record one shot on goal? That’s much, much, much, much, much, (how many more times do I need to say it?) much worse. Bradley Wright-Phillips did not do much because he wasn’t given much. Sacha Kljestan didn’t do much because why should he? Granted, no one else, aside from Luis Robles, did much against NYC FC. The same goes for the Philadelphia Union USOC match where Ryan Meara again should be buying the post a beer after it saved a loss a regulation. Meara at least made good in Penalty Kicks and secured the New York Red Bulls a place in the USOC Quarterfinals.

Jason is back and so is the idea of the New York Red Bulls winning on the road. The Red Bulls went down to Chester, PA and defeated a 10-men Philadelphia Union in a hot and humid affair. But wait, was that Jesse Marsch leaving early? It’s not like he had to beat the traffic, so why was he leaving? Oh, he’s off to get his UEFA coaching license? So that means he’s leaving New York at some point right? That will have to wait for now though as the Red Bulls have to turn around and host New York City FC in a midday national game on Saturday. Can the Red Bulls repeat their US Open Cup win? Can the Red Bulls repeat the Philly win in the following midweek US Open Cup match?

The New York Red Bulls took on New York City FC in the 4th round of the 2017 US Open Cup. Why? That’s because the New York Cosmos didn’t want that honor this year. The Red Bulls kept tradition alive though when they dispatched NYC FC from the Cup, their third straight exit in the 4th round. Now it’s up to the Red Bulls to travel to Philadelphia, sorry, Chester, to avenge a previous 3-0 loss to the struggling Union. Can the Red Bulls change their road woes into road wins (or at least road draws)?

Man, a two game week. The New York Red Bulls sure have been busy. How did they fare in their two games? Well Dax McCarty and Bastian Schweinsteiger came to burn down Red Bull Arena, but the Red Bulls were able to put out the Chicago Fire with a 2-1 victory. How did that follow that up? With a 2-0 loss to Sporting Kansas City with a squad that was half starters, half reserves. That’s OK though, we all knew the Red Bulls would have trouble against SKC. The real test will be if the Red Bulls can finally win on the road, even against a struggling Philadelphia Union.
