On Wednesday, November 11, host Gene Wilhelm talked with Dr. Joseph Hollcraft, about his new book from Sophia Institute Press, Unleashing the Power of Intercessory Prayer. If you have ever wondered if your prayers for family and friend really makes a difference then you need to read this book. The book will help you cooperate with Our Lord in his saving mission by asking for his grace for others. Dr. Hollcraft had a massive transformation in his relationship with God and his love for the Catholic Faith when he became a student at Franciscan University and he said some of what you find in his book is a reflection of his time spent at Steubenville. He talked about his experience teaching and his journey toward writing this book. He also covered the significance of intercessory prayer and quoted excerpts from scripture that help us understand it as a very biblical practice. Tune into this great conversation! And remember, when choosing between the values of heaven and the values of earth, always round up!
On Wednesday November 4, Deacon Mike talked with Dr. Francis Beckwith, Professor of Philosophy in Church State Studies at Baylor University, where he also serves as the Associate Director of the graduate program in philosophy, and he is also an affiliate professor of political science. Dr. Beckwith is also a “revert” to the Catholic Faith, and spoke a little bit about his journey back. The major things that brought him back to the Church was his belief in the Eucharist, penance, Apostolic Succession and the Catholic view of grace. Then he and Deacon Mike discussed politics and law through the lens of our Catholic Faith. One of Dr. Francis’s arguments is that religious people cannot simply rely on the law, we have to actually make public arguments as to why our views are reasonable. Listen to this episode for a great conversation, and remember when considering the many ways in which you might share your time, talent, and treasure with God, always round up!

On Wednesday, October 21, Pam talked a little bit about marriage, as October 21 was her 31st wedding anniversary! She quoted St. JPII and talked about the beauty of the Sacrament of Marriage. In the second part of the show, she spoke with Bishop Joseph Strickland of Tyler, Texas, author of a new book, Light and Leaven: The Challenge of the Laity in the Twenty-First Century. Bishop Strickland was inspired to write this book to encourage all people to really step up and live out the Gospel, no matter where they are in their lives. Bishop Strickland believes that as bishops, priests, and an institution as a whole, we have to do a better job of giving families—the domestic Church—the tools that they need in order to make being Catholic not just something you do on Sundays, but to realize it’s a way of life. Listen to Bishop Strickland’s beautiful conversation with Pam, and you will hear his love for The Lord and the Church. You can purchase Light and Leaven here!

On Wednesday, September 30, host Pam Marvin talked with James Adams, Theology teacher at St. Joseph Catholic School in Bryan, Tx. In the first part of the show, they had an interesting discussion about the archangels. Did you know there are 7? Tune in to hear more! In the second half of the show, James and Pam talked about the USCCB’s document, Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship. James and Pam talked about the importance of voting as Catholic citizens. When American Catholics vote, they must do so with a conscience formed by the teachings of the Church, especially in regards to those political debates revolving around intrinsically evil acts. As the bishops urge us in the document, “Catholics must never abandon the moral requirement to seek full protection for all human life from the moment of conception until natural death [#32].” This responsibility needs to be taken with great seriousness because, as the bishops note, “Responsible citizenship is a virtue, and participation in political life is a moral obligation [#13].” Voting is only the most obvious way we fulfill this obligation. Listen to this great conversation to prepare you to vote ! You can read the full document, Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship here.

On Wednesday, September 9, host Gene Wilhelm spoke with Fr. Timothy Vaverek about his journey and discernment to the priesthood. Fr. In the second part of the show, Fr. Timothy shared his journey through discernment to the priesthood. Fr. Timothy got his undergrad in physics from Texas State in San Marcos, then pursued his graduate degree in theology. The Bishop asked him to complete his degree in theology in Rome, where he specialized in Dogmatics – the study of Church teaching. You’ll enjoy the way that Fr. Timothy takes very high theological concepts and connects them to the daily demands of living the Christian life. And remember, when choosing between the values of heaven and the values of earth, always round up!
