  • 110. Pulling Magento's Hemmet Out of Claremont's Ass" - Pitching A Better X-Men Franchise Part 2

The oven is done cooking, the sheets are out of the dryer, and TJ has done a bang up job digesting and excreting the contents of Part 1 into a satisfying meal of an X-Franchise. Last week, Trevor talked a whole bunch about things that feel true to making a better X-Men movie or TV franchise, and now he gets to be silly again as he sits back and listens to the musings of an almost-screenwriter. And that's when Pedro Pascal's acting comes in. Join us for too many damn characters, a softly-spoken "nobody wants to follow you, dude", having Mark Ruffalo on retainer, and Thunderbird: he attac, he protec, but unfortunately, he still has to get wrecked.

  • 109. “You Want the X-Men in the MCU? PAY YOUR WRITERS AND ACTORS!” - Pitching A Better X-Men Franchise Part 1

Yes friends here we are with more strike content - because even though we’re not Drew Barrymore, we still know what it means to not be a scab. That said, if some mouse-based mega corporation likes our ideas, we should be paid for them. This week and next week, Trevor and TJ will be doing a deep dive into X-Men comics history to pitch a better live action adaptation. Today, we begin with Trevor’s super-fan interpretation of plots, characters, and key points to cover, so that TJ can get to cooking for next week. If we got stuff wrong, don’t come for us! Join us for a very single Okoye, not giving evangelicals one inch with Nightcrawler, AOC as Kitty Pryde, and the X-Men never getting to have what they want.  PAY YOUR WRITERS AND ACTORS, YOU LEECHES/EXECS.

  • 108. Can Trevor Get to Those Robot Yams??? - The Mass Effect Series

It finally happened, gang. Trevor has completed his debt to TJ (per last December’s Reject or Renew Survivor Series) to complete the Mass Effect video game trilogy. And now TJ finally has a friend. As a bonus, we don’t have to be scabs because this is video game content! Join us for an extra long, extra special episode featuring: our space dad, our space raptor best friend, and our space conservative side chick, discovering those sweet sweet robot yams, hand tongs for space stations, misgendering the Mako, giving biotics laser swords, socialism (but creepy), Trevor’s new dog, and nobody talking to Kaidan. Ever.

  • 107. "Let It Go, Teej, It's Anime" - Reject or Renew: One Piece Episodes 1-30

Wow. This anime sure is anime-ing. You know, the anime called One Piece? It's an anime called One Piece. It's about Pirates. Wowee! Pirates! Did we mention it's about Pirates? Not the Cypher Chief, but Pirates! I once encountered pirates... (proceeds to talk about it for nine episodes). Welcome to May's Reject or Renew where we finally dig into the first four arcs of the seminal anime One Piece. And we're not gonna pull a Zoro and take a nap during all the action until our cue is called. This is bitter work. Join us for multiple episode titles, Chibi versions of ourselves, taking the SAT when you're bored, and catboys: mmm... Gross.

  • 106. “You HAVE to See RRR With a Best Buy Rewards Card” - Polite Society & RRR
A white woman? NO! And he falls in love with her? TYPICAL! Welcome back to AAPI Heritage month where we finally take a crack at movies representing that big ole Indian subcontinent with Tollywood’s smash hit, RRR, and the Pakistani slugfest, Polite Society. This is the week we learn that if you don’t have anything to say to a woman that isn’t about her womb, just don’t say anything at all. We’re even gonna weigh in on politics we know very little about, hot dog! Join us for being 20 (woof), our culinary tour through India, and Trevor becoming a Terminator, using infared vision to hunt down celebrities to meet.

  • 105. "Two Bros Cheating with Tang Wei, 15 Years Apart Cuz They're Not Gay" - Lust, Caution & Decision to Leave (And Nothing Else)

Are straight people okay? Clearly not, since we're launching into unprompted Star Wars rants in the middle of AAPI Heritage Month. Welcome to a big heckin negative review episode as TJ and Trevor chime in about a genre that is very much not for them: the erotic thriller! Featuring 2007's Lust, Caution, 2022's Decision to Leave, and very much not any Marvel movies, why would you even think that? We take this opportunity to acknowledge why Sandra Oh should be in more things, and that you should never waste a perfectly good Stephanie Hsu. In addition to those universal truths, join us for The Who (or George W. Bush), Tony Leung's ungodly rizz, reading wives for filth, and not thinking straight. Thinking GAY.

  • 104. “I Gave an AI a Mood Disorder” - Ghost in the Shell & Lupin III: The First

We’ve hired the Cypher Chief to jack into your brains for yet another episode of classic anime franchises. This week’s slate is Ghost in the Shell (not the whitewashed one, we promise) and Lupin III: The First (Yeah, that one. No, the other one. No, the *other* other one. Look, just type in 2018 when you search for it, it’s the one with the CG). Tune in for what basically amounts to a pretty intelligible discussion of irl AI and the limitations of archeology, and… Not much else, tbh. Join us for repeating plot details ad nauseam, quiet Barenaked Ladies references, and ghosts in… Michelle?

  • 103. "That Dirigible Is Our Mom Now" - Studio Ghibli Part 2: The Cat Returns, Kiki's Delivery Service, & Princess Mononoke

This episode is somehow simultaneously a warm bowl of soup and an absolute roller coaster ride - that's just the combination you get when you put us together to talk about Studio Ghibli movies. We return to the promised land that Hayao Miyazaki built in a cave with a box of scraps, by diving into the oft-overlooked film The Cat Returns, the classic growing pains of Kiki's Delivery Service, and the environmentalist juggernaut that is Princess Mononoke. Give Trevor the demon powers, cause he's gonna go kill a capitalist. (For legal reasons, this is a joke.) Truly, truly, there are too many references to list in this description, so for just a small treat: join us for TikTok name drops, the rise of the Cypher Chief, William Robert Thornton, and the newly discovered Jay Baruchel/Jennifer Coolidge phenomenon.

  • 102. “For the Longest Woe” - Reject or Renew: Wednesday Season 1

They’re not creepy, they’re not kooky, they’re altogether… disappointing. Welcome to this month’s Reject or Renew where TJ and Trevor cover the Riverdale-ification of yet another franchise with season one of Netflix’s Wednesday. We give flowers where due to Jenna Ortega as we wrestle with this wendigo of a mystery plot. Or is it a chupacabra? At any rate, join us for turning gay by moonlight, questionable characters named Rowan, the hot button topic that is Tyler’s mom, and aggressively playing the cello as the world burns down around you.

  • 100B. "You Used Me... for CONTENT DEVELOPMENT???" - March Madness 2023 Continued: The Most Iconic Episode of SpongeBob with Krista Grevas

No March but all Madness? Sounds like a lotta Hoopla to me. We're sucking down burnt shakes as we carry on with the second half of our 100th Episode (hush), narrowing down our choice for the *Best*, Most *Iconic* episode of SpongeBob SquarePants. We've reached our final 32 contestants - will Band Geeks mosey into the top spot? Will Wet Painters carry on with its run of the century? Will Kwista remain twue neutwal? One thing's for sure: TJ is certainly a misanthrope. Join us for the exciting conclusion!
