REDACTED Culture Cast

Talk Back to Me

A common theme repeated when regarding the advancement of technology arrives in the phrase from Jurassic Park: "Our scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should." Yet outside of the metaphorical Silicon Valley, with the rise of AI, and the advancement of technology as a tool for surveillance, the conversation is evolving to reconsider the Rights of the Individual. Whether bitcoin could function as the antidote to centralized banking, or if encrypted communications are a threat to the nation state, part of considering technology is what is could do, and another is what it should do. Stagnancy is not an option.

Surveillance, Counter Surveillance, Communications, and Enhancing the capabilities of cooperative technology, the Base Station by GridBase provides many of the benefits of computing technology for OffGrid and Decentralized applications.

Talk Back to Me

Abused by culture, the term Philosophy suffers when applied to things that are anything but. Author C.B Robertson joins the show to talk about the metaphysical claims made by stoicism, some philosophical considerations when it comes to guns, agency, and we discuss popular books that may or may not be worth reading.

Honor Culture, Dignity Culture, and more, as bad as a marketing pitch it may sound like, this episode is more worth listening to than describing.

Talk Back to Me

Three elements provide the context for today's Topic: holding ourselves accountable in an environment that seeks to take advantage of it, the projection of conflicting categories of people, and the paradigm shift apparent in Gun Culture.

Dr. Rigney has left his position as the President of Bethlehem Seminary, with articles stating that it's partly because of his affinity or support for Christian Nationalism. This comes at a time when terms of this sort are often defined by the people least qualified to do so.
We see this happen in debates around Guns in the United States.

At the same time categories are being declared in conflict with one another, and in this case, it's by supporters of the aggressor.

Reading "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions" by Thomas Kuhn identifies a way of describing the shift in Gun Culture, and while many are trying to figure out what that means, it would suggest we are in the time between paradigms, one of searching.
So we posit what a few of the examples and core principles should emerge in the new one.

Talk Back to Me

As much as the topic of Radios typically focuses on two subjects: Military/Citizen Application, and the strengths/weaknesses of individual systems, this conversation on radio-based centers on something made relevant by recent events. Alex, of Mojave Repeater answers the question of what he would be looking for as far as radio capability and proficiency in an active shooter response scenario.

When last we spoke with Alex in episode 013, we talked about the differences between digital and analogue radios, a subject that comes up frequently in Gun Culture. This follow on asks questions closer to home in light of the violence in Nashville.

Talk Back to Me

As the world cringes in anticipation for the unrequested humor that will be forced upon us on April First, we interrupt the regularly scheduled content of this show to present Administrative Results. The big chimp himself joins the show to talk a little bit about taking a step into the unknown, the new frontier of the internet, and the cultural ramifications of Doxxing in this caustic environment.

Administrative Results is still most likely shadowbaned on Instagram, but can be found at @administrativeresults

Talk Back to Me

The subject of Ukraine cannot be separated from politics. We can come to this conclusion either from and ontological angle: Clausewitz "War is politics by another mean," or by the account that in America, any conversation on the war in Ukraine must first wade through a political prelude before any real conversation can occur.

Iain Harrison returns to the REDACTED Culture Cast to bring his perspective on the War in Ukraine to the table. While we are often aware of the tribalism seen in others, this conversation functions as a healthy opportunity to reconsider our premises, and look at the Ukrainian War differently.

Plenty of lessons have been learned from this most recent conflict, and we look at how those apply to the individual.

Iain Harrison operates as the Editor-in-Chief of RECOIL Magazine.

Talk Back to Me

The art of Gypsy Walters can be seen across Gun Culture. From shirts, stickers, and patches, to tattoos, and beyond. It shows that Gun Culture isn't purely utilitarian. While we often justify our purchases and pursuits for their utility, whereas our true motivation might be located somewhere else.

There was a time when tattoos were an identifier of danger, but with a changing of the guard, tattoos became commonplace in the last 15 years. While this was going on, Gun Culture was shifting towards broader involvement.

For Gypsy Walters, it was always his goal to make a living off his Art.

So we address what that means for him, and take a look forward to what comes next.

SEASON 1 // OPERATION 2: [INTO BEASTS]
We came together to produce this operation, and begin talking about the meaning behind INTO BEASTS.

Talk Back to Me

Better Late than Never. This episode had to be written before it could be presented, particularly due to the nature of the material.

You have heard that Governments have a Monopoly on Violence. We take a look at that premise, and the application of our conclusion to how we look at violence.

Thesis: the Concept, or Axiom that men are created equal, or more specifically, on level playing field of metaphysical value, is not reflected in either nature or most of history, and must be grounded in theological truth.

Talk Back to Me

Most of us were born into American Gun Culture, but for Iain Harrison, it took a little bit of sacrifice, to put it lightly.

Iain Harrison is the lead editor of RECOIL Magazine, a long standing challenger to the hegemony of gun magazines.

By the end of this conversation it is clear that this will be the first of the first 2 shows with Iain.

Talk Back to Me

What is the difference between surreptitious and covert, and what does it have to do with Gun Culture? One thing we know about this 'community' of sorts, is that it'll never be satisfied when it comes to skillsets. If you can learn to shoot, you can learn to pick a lock, run a radio, and so forth.

What begins with picking locks, leads to questions of privacy, digital penetration testing, and red teaming, as skillsets, and as thought experiments.
