It is not good for Adam to be alone. God brings Eve to him as a gift and a helper. 

Guard the sacredness of marriage. 

Jesus confronts the Pharisees on their superificial interpretation of the law of God. In this passage he addresses the problem of anger and how we can "cool down before we blow up." 

The seventh day of creation is the foundation for Sabbath. 

Jesus did not come to abolish the law and the prophets (the Bible). He came to fulfill the law and the prophets for us and in us. 

Jesus moves from our blessings (the Beatitudes Matthew 5:1-12) to our influence in the world (Matthew 5:13-16). We are blessed in Christ to be a blessing and glorify the Father in the world. 

What does it mean to be created in "the image of God"? 

This week we take a look at the horizontal beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount. 

The eight beatitudes found in Matthew 5 can be broken up into two groups of four. The first four focus on our vertical relationship with God. The second four focus on our horizontal relationships with people. In this sermon we unpack the first four beatitudes. Next week we will look at the second four.
