Mark is declaring a new beginning for Redemptive History. John the baptizer is declaring a new beginning for Israel. Before Jesus opens the doors of His temple to the world, He cleanses it from within. A new beginning is what the people of God need before God shows up in power to change the world.

Mark was well-placed to record all that Peter said about what he witnessed Jesus do. And by studying the thread of this gospel account, we learn a great deal about the inspiration of Scripture and the role of the Bible in the Church as Jesus intends it.
