On Christ the King Sunday, we conclude our Entrusted series by focusing on wise stewardship. In the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14–30), Jesus tells of servants entrusted with resources to manage until the master’s return. One was faithful, one was fearful, and the King held them accountable. Stewardship is not just about money—it’s about how we live all of life under Christ’s reign, managing what he has entrusted for his glory and the good of others. Come, rejoice in Christ our King!

In week two of our Entrusted series, we turn from giving generously to the question of saving responsibly. Jesus’ Parable of the Rich Fool (Luke 12:13–21) warns us about the dangers of stockpiling treasures for ourselves while forgetting to be “rich toward God.” Responsible saving is not about hoarding out of fear, but about preparing wisely for tomorrow while resting in the daily provision of a faithful God

We begin our Entrusted series by looking at generosity through the eyes of a widow who gave two small coins in Luke 21:1–4. James confronts a faith that is all talk and no action, reminding us that real faith is alive and active. He also exposes the quarrels, pride, and self-reliance that wage war in our hearts. But in the middle of this hard truth comes a greater promise: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” The Reformation reminds us of the good news that this grace is not earned—it is given freely in Christ, who alone makes us free indeed. Words have power—to build up or to burn down. James reminds us that the tongue, though small, can steer the course of a life or set a whole forest ablaze. But Jesus teaches that our words reveal something deeper—they flow from the abundance of our hearts. If our speech is to be tamed, our hearts must be tended. When the lawyer of Luke 10 asked Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?” he was really asking, “Who can I leave out?” James leaves no room for such limits. Favoritism, partiality, and judging by appearances stand opposed to the mercy we’ve been shown in Christ. In the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus shatters our boundaries, showing that true love moves toward the one in need—no matter their status, background, or cost to us.
