Jesus introduces his disciples to the idea of being called according to a purpose. He begins his preaching ministry by moving to where he was prophesied to go, the “land of Zebulun and Naphtali” and then calls them to follow him. Jesus not only fulfills his purpose in dying on the cross for our sins; he also fulfills his purpose in living as the Messiah, living INTO his calling as Messiah. This week we explore how Jesus calls us INTO a life that is unique to each of us but is intricately woven into all the other lives that make up his body the Church. No sooner is Jesus baptized and named God’s beloved Son than he is led into the wilderness to be tested. Epiphany reminds us that revelation is often followed by resistance. In the desert, Jesus meets temptation not with shortcuts or power, but with God’s Word and deep trust in the Father. This week in our Manifesting Messiah series, we focus on Manifesting Trials and Testing, exploring how faith is shaped through testing. James reminds us that trials mature our faith, and Matthew shows us a Savior who enters the battle on our behalf. When trials come, we are not alone. Our scripture focus will be Matthew 4:1-11.

At the Jordan River, Jesus is baptized not for repentance, but to reveal his identity. As the Spirit descends and the Father speaks, God reveals who Jesus is and launches his saving mission, a mission that also shapes our own. On this Sunday, as we celebrate the Baptism of Our Lord, we continue Manifesting Messiah with a focus on Manifesting Mission. Baptism is not just something that happened to us, it is who we are, sending us into everyday life to live on mission with purpose and love. Join us as we focus on Matthew 3:13-17.

A new year raises questions about purpose and direction. Epiphany answers them not by turning us inward, but by lifting our eyes to the God already at work in the world through Jesus. Today we begin a new series, Manifesting Messiah, with a sermon titled “Manifesting Destiny.” Our scripture focus is Matthew 2:1–12, where the magi follow the star and discover that God’s purposes are bigger than our fears and more generous than we imagine. On this first Sunday of 2026, Epiphany invites us to trust the God who reveals his plan in Jesus and calls us to live for the praise of his glorious grace.
