In response to the intercession of his beloved, Queen Esther, King Ahasuerus authorized an edict delivering the Jews throughout his vast empire from the decree he himself had approved condemning them to destruction. In response to the stunning deliverance of the Jews, many of the people of the land became Jews. This deliverance points us to the greater deliverance secured for both Jews and Gentiles through the intercession of Jesus Christ on behalf of all who trust in Him by faith.

Jesus the Messiah suffered rejection by His people and utter, ultimate rejection by His Father, so that those whose sins He bore might justly receive forgiveness.

The death of Haman, the Jews archenemy, opened the door for the deliverance of the Jews and the defeat of all their enemies. When Jesus Christ, the ultimate seed of the woman, defeated Satan, the ultimate seed of the serpent, on the cross, it guaranteed the deliverance of all the elect of God and the final defeat of all the seed enemies. Jesus Christ has bound the strong man so that his power is limited and his kingdom can be plundered.

Haman, who began the day pumped about killing Mordecai the Jew, was humiliated and Mordecai honored by the day

Confronted with the annihilation of the entire Jewish people, Mordecai and all the Jews of Susa go into mourning. Realizing that Esther the only Jew uniquely placed to intercede with king for her people, Mordecai persuades her to overcome her reluctance and fear to approach the king. She enters into a three day period of humiliation, anticipating Jesus

Despite disobedience on the part of Mordecai and Esther (distant relatives of King Saul), God was working behind the scenes to bring Esther into this critical position of influence in King Ahasuerus

King Ahasuerus (Xerxes) was one of the most powerful rulers that ever lived, yet he was not even able to control his own queen. Although, like many ancient monarchs, he claimed to be the king of kings, the LORD, as revealed in the Bible, is the true King of kings. He raised Ahasuerus to power and later deposed him, as He did with a host of other rulers. One day, all will recognized Jesus Christ as the true King of kings. A great banquet will be spread for all who trust in Him.
