Paul is the only Biblical author to use the imagery of adoption. In the sermon, Elder David Bosma helps us to understand the image in the time of the 1st century Christians and also helps us to understand God’s Sovereign work in bringing us into His eternal family.

No doubt the Apostle Paul would have been accused of disregarding God’s covenant promises to Abraham and God’s work through Moses, but in this passage Paul begins to show how the New Covenant in Christ does not sidestep the covenants previously established, but is enforced and supported by them!

After looking at what it means to inherit the blessing of Abraham by faith, Paul now explains that those who rely on works of the law remain under the curse of the law. But then, amazingly we also see that Christ can deliver us from this helpless condition, because he became a curse for us!
