Rest isn’t just about sleeping, going on vacation, or getting a massage, and yet, that’s often what we think when we hear that word. Exhausted, burnt out, and overworked, you probably can’t wait to catch up on sleep on the weekend or plan your next vacation. While those things can be rest, the world has told you that rest is finite, temporary, and a treat you have to earn. Now, it’s time to redefine rest.
Discover what rest is and what it is not. Hear how our society’s definition of rest leads us to burnout, why women especially have a long history of being told we’re hysterical for needing rest, how rest is a core and essential component of being a human, and what happens when you redefine what rest means for you.

While we can’t eliminate all stressors from our lives, we can control our reactions to them. When you don’t understand the difference between your experience of stress and the external things that are causing it, you’re left feeling like life just happens to you. On the other hand, being able to separate external stressors from your reaction gives you power and control over your experience to make the changes you want.
Join me this week to hear how learning to distinguish between stress and stressors is the key to finally getting out of the burnout cycle. I’m showing you what stress is, why understanding your stressors matters, how they aren’t as dangerous as our brains think, and my top tips for beginning to harness the power you have over your internal response.

Imposter syndrome is something particularly women, People of Color, immigrants, and other folks with one or more marginalized identities experience when we navigate spaces where we feel or have been told we don’t belong. Power imbalances and hierarchies exist across the field of public health, which can contribute to feeling like you don’t belong, but the good news is it doesn’t have to stay this way.
Hear what imposter syndrome is and isn’t, and how to navigate the world with self-trust and internal belonging, even when there are external challenges or barriers you’re facing. Learn what’s creating your experience of self-doubt and insecurity, and how to build the emotional capacity to shift from a feeling of inadequacy to confidence.

How is hustle culture being explicitly and implicitly promoted in public health? The truth is, no matter how hard you try to get out, hustle culture will always attempt to pull you back in. Part of the reason it feels impossible to prioritize rest is because the structures and systems we live in promote hustle culture, but that doesn’t mean you have to wait for the world to change to live a hustle-free life.
Join me on this episode to discover the keys to detaching from hustle culture. Hear how doing this on an individual level leads to collective change, innovative examples from around the world of ways rest is being prioritized over hustling, and what you can do on a personal level to begin changing your experience of overworking.
